There was a lot that impressed me in Cayman. But most impressive of all was the Camana Bay development – a visionary new city created by US Billionare Ken Dart that surpasses any I have seen anywhere in the world. Think upscale Palm Beach mixed with Fifth Avenue, Manhattan in a setting rivaling the beauty of Jamaica’s North Coast, and you will have Camana Bay.

My first sight was at night at a concert was held on the grassy Camana Bay entertainment field beside the man-made lagoon and marina. Beautiful by night with the buildings lit up, it was even more beautiful when I visited by day, first by deep-sea fishing yacht to pick up a passenger at the marina, then the following day on foot to explore its many spaces.

Ground floor shops, offices and restaurants have balcony apartments on top overlooking the marina. Fountains spurt in strategic corners, streams flow beside walkways, flowering vines flow down the sides of buildings and you can recharge your electric car in the basement parking lot. A great deal of innovative design has gone into making Camana Bay a spectacular 21st Century city with artistic touches everywhere and a cultural programme that attracts residents and visitors. The open spaces on land invite relaxation, while the lagoon and marina give Camana Bay a water-based option for fun.

The Dart family earned their money by inventing and manufacturing the foam plastic cups we all use. en Dart has invested some of his in Grand Cayman, with Camana Bay being just one of his several major projects that include a massive new hotel. Before Camana Bay construction started, Dart created vast plant nurseries growing the trees and plants that would eventually be needed, thus, he can plant a highway of flowering trees to beautify the meridian of a new highway passing his new hotel. Simple touches like this show how forward-thinking this developer is. I can only wish I...

Camana Bay is a great recreational and shopping center for the entire family. The outdoor shopping center is has every shop you can think of. This includes a bookstore, ice cream shop, apple store, clothing, home decor, restaurants, lounges, gym, supermarket, movie theater and many other hot spots.

To the back, there is also a boat dock which allows access from the caribbean sea and they have ample parking for the many cars that visit daily. Security is top notch. You can find a guard on every corner all day everyday (not that its Cayman isnt safe). The design of Camana Bay is very modern, lots of green spots that are impeccably maintained with attention to detail. The shops are also very chic and trendy and are always clean and kept to a certain high standard.

There is a viewing tower that affords view of George Town. Nearby are the residences where high end apartments are leased to individuals who can afford it. Businesses are also in the mix; there is a law firm, bank, post office, vehicle dealership and even a school on site.

They also host many events all year round including the ever popular Taste of Cayman, a few music concerts and also Christmas family events such as the lighting of the tree and a boat parade. There is very little not to love about Camana Bay. It is definitely a great addition to the...

I love Camana Bay. It is so peaceful. Its a awesome place to just sit back and relax. There are alot of restaurants there if you want tk have a nice breakfast, awesome lunch or wonderful dinner. Also you can catch a lovely view of the sunset if you are near the water. Camana Bay is also great for kids. The have a mini and a large water fountain that the kids sure do enjoy. It is totally free so the kids can go and play as much as the want and as long as the want to cool off in the heat. While they are playing you can just chillax a breathe in the fresh air. If you are interested in clothes, shoes and jewelery there are alot of stores there. Need some money quickly there is a bank and several atm there. It is suitable for every age and gender. It is super beautiful, it is clean and its a friendly environment to be in. Its a bit on the pricey side but its a great spot. Did i forget to tell you, well if you are interested there is also apartment right in the heart of Camana Bay that you can rent. I would surely recommend Camana bay...

Update: the new Fosters Grocer, located to the North is ridiculous. It has everything. Try the hot /cold table bar spread. Enjoy in one of the garden areas outfitted with cafe tables. Water fountains have easy bottle filling spouts. ------------- This Dart Enterprise built and owned development is worth seeing, when in Cayman. "Live. Work. Eat. Shop. Play" is completely true. Top notch restaurants, and a pub. Indoor and outdoor seating throughout. High end boutiques. Grocer. Farmers Market on Wednesday. Cinema. Cooking classes. Restaurant tours coordinated through West Indies Wine Company. Fountains for the kids. Book shop that occasionally brings in famous authors for signings (I met Alan Alda, and Candice Bushnell while they were in town). Boat docks. Canal that opens to the North Sound. Viewing tower, with an incredible mosaic that winds up along the wall of the staircase. Lush foliage everywhere. Hosts many events throughout the year.

We spent the first week of July in the Caymans and often found ourselves returning to Camana Bay at various times of our trip. It is an excellent shopping area with several restaurant options for all times of the day. Union Grill and Agua are just a couple of places we tried there and highly recommend. You also have a gelato shop and Jesse's is a nice spot for cold brew coffee and some breakfast options. There are plenty of lounging areas here and even a nice miniature island with a hammock and some benches you can access via a short bridge. Parking wasn't much of an issue as there was always a spot available. The area also provides free WiFi if needed as well.
