Reading the reviews in this restaurant gives me such a disheartening feeling because unfortunately that was not my family’s experience here last night. We went to celebrate my mothers birthday and as a Jamaican-American, I had to learn the disgusting lesson of how people from the island of Cayman are treated vs those who are tourists. I have an American accent but my family’s accents are all Jamaican because they are Jamaican. Our dinner party was a mix of members from Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and America. It’s truly terrible that I even have to explain this to help this review make sense.
It seems as if as soon as our server heard island accents, we were treated as if we didn’t even matter. An occasion that was meant to be joyful and celebratory was ruined by our server and the restaurant service we received. We had to watch the other tables be sung happy birthday while ours was ignored. When we questioned the server about it, we were given an impolite response, clearly showing we were not even a second thought. There should never be a circumstance where patrons are treated differently based off where they’re from. Whether they’re from Cayman, Jamaica, America, or the UK, wherever, we all pay money and hope to have enriching experiences. So thank you “Union” for ruining my mother’s birthday dinner which we originally thought would be so special since we never celebrated in the Cayman Islands before.
I do NOT recommend this place for tourists or people from the island because who is to know what kind of service you will receive, simply based off your nationality/accent.
I don’t know how to reply to the owner on Google so I will have to update the review here. I have ZERO reason to lie. I don’t even live in Cayman Islands so what benefit would I have slandering a business? My record with google reviews is open and honest which you can see for yourself. I leave AMAZING reviews for many businesses, unfortunately, yours is not one of them. I hated the experience that took place last night and the fact that I even had to leave this review in the first place. But I left it with hopes that management would see how some patrons were treated. Birthday plans were ruined due to extremely unfortunate circumstances. There were several “Happy Birthday’s” sung last night, so it is you in fact that is lying. I can feel the anger in your reply. Again, a reflection of how business is conducted at this restaurant. There’s literally even no way for me to reply to you but yet you ask me for a reply with reservation details and make a comment about no birthday songs? WOW. Totally false.
If google decides to remove it, that is totally fine. At least I was able to share my very HONEST experience with whoever has read this...
Read moreWe hosted our wedding reception at Union in March. Neither Ethan or I are local to the Cayman Islands, so we felt like we were going in a little blind planning. From our very first interaction with Tania, this felt like a different experience than we had received anywhere else. Tania listened to our vision, and just multiplied it, creating an absolute dream. She coordinated with our other vendors, such as our florist, and truly went above and beyond in every way possible.
When we arrived to the island, we stopped by to drop off a few items, see the space, and have a drink. We were amazed. Both the outdoor patio area and dining area were absolutely beautiful. Photos do not do the space justice. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, greeting us by name. Jaxan, Union’s mixologist, took the best care of us that evening, and then remembered our favorite drinks from the night, greeting us with them the evening of our wedding. The attention to detail was unmatched.
The curated menu for our guests was divine. Each dish wash cooked to perfection, and had the most fun and unique flavor combinations. They could not stop raving. The service was spectacular for our guests, creating a very intimate experience. Our guests loved the experience so much, they scheduled a group mixology class with Jaxan later in the week. (Which we also recommend!)
We could not have asked for a better all around experience. Each and every person at Union was so wonderful, kind, and truly masters of their craft. Whether you are looking for a refreshing cocktail and appetizers, a fantastic meal, or an intimate upscale dining experience, Union is the place for you. Thank you all again for taking the...
Read moreNot a bad experience. I ordered the Buratta and the truffle mushroom patê. Very interesting appetizers. The Buratta was obviously fresh. It's served with some candied nuts and sliced oranges which is refreshing but unsure if that's a good pairing for that. The truffle mushroom patê was good but it came with only a small wafer which was quickly consumed. Strangely they brought some sliced and toasted french baguette ok the side. This was good but it would be better to do something that's perhaps a pita or more of that wafer which was used as decoration in the pate. The truffle was good but feels like it could have used more overall.
Ordered the Angus Short Rib, presentation was nice but the garlic was unnecessary and could have done with potato instead. For some reason this dish has a chocolate sauce on it that is supposed to taste like a chocolate reduction of some sort. Very weird and this knocks the place down to a 4.
Also ordered the "Eton Mess" dessert to see if this would turn the meal around. It was a plate that had small servings of sorbet, strawberry jam, some strawberry flavored puffs. It was strange and the flavors were very clashing in nature with one another.
The place was also playing live music during the dinner which was nice, it was a jazz theme with a live saxophonist.
Plenty of seating but even on a Thursday night it was a bit loud as the room was cavernous and had no sound baffling at all.
Waiting staff were very pleasant and...
