The CMG Headquarters is a 234-metre (768 ft), 51-story skyscraper on East Third Ring Road, Guanghua Road in the Beijing Central Business District (CBD). The tower serves as headquarters for China Media Group (CMG) that was formerly at the China Central Television Building located at 11 Fuxin Road some 15 km (9.3 mi) to the west. Groundbreaking took place on 1 June 2004 and the building's facade was completed in January 2008. After the construction was delayed by a fire which in February 2009 engulfed the adjacent Television Cultural Center, the headquarters was completed in May 2012. The CCTV Headquarters won the 2013 Best Tall Building Worldwide from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. The main building is not a traditional tower, but a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections covering 473,000 m2(5,090,000 sq ft) of floor space, creating an irregular grid on the building's facade with an open center. The construction of the building is considered to be a structural challenge, especially because it is in a seismic zone. Rem Koolhaas has said the building "could never have been conceived by the Chinese and could never have been built by Europeans. It is a hybrid by definition". Because of its radical shape, it's said that a taxi driver first came up with its nickname dà kùchǎ  "big boxer shorts". Locals often refer to it as "big pants". A Chinese critic said that the structure was modeled after a pornographic image of a woman on her hands and knees, which Koolhaas has...

The CCTV Headquarters in Beijing, designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), stands as a striking example of contemporary architecture. Completed in 2012, this 234-meter tall structure deviates from traditional skyscraper designs by forming a continuous loop of six horizontal and vertical sections, creating an irregular grid on its façade with a central void.

The building houses China Central Television's administrative offices, news studios, and broadcasting facilities. Its innovative design has garnered both acclaim and criticism. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat named it the Best Tall Building Worldwide in 2013, recognizing its architectural significance.

However, some critics argue that its complexity lacks authenticity, suggesting the form does not emerge naturally from its function.

Locally, the building has earned the nickname "Big Pants" due to its distinctive shape. While it is not open for public tours, visitors can appreciate its unique structure from various vantage points in Beijing, such as the nearby China World Mall.

Overall, the CCTV Headquarters serves as a landmark in Beijing's skyline, symbolizing the city's modernization and...

The tallest CCTV tower is 234 m high with a floor area of 465,000 m² and consists of a series of horizontal and vertical sections, which establishes it as an earthbound structure and not a ‘skyscraper’. This tower contains administration, news, broadcasting, studios, programme production areas, staff facilities and parking. A public media museum will be located on the cantilevered part of the building. The neighbouring TVCC tower is 194 m high with 95,000 m² floor space. Its programme includes a 300-room Mandarin Oriental hotel designed by Lim, Teo & Wilkes (containing two restaurants, a suspended champagne sky bar and a ballroom surrounded by water), a visitor centre, a 1,500-seat public theatre, a digital cinema and exhibition and conference facilities. The remainder of the site surrounding the building was developed into a media park with outdoor filming areas, theatres, production facilities and public entertainment areas.

It's a striking skyscraper designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture). The building is characterized by its unique and unconventional design, featuring two leaning towers connected by a horizontal section. The CCTV Tower is primarily used as the headquarters for China Central Television (CCTV) and has become an iconic symbol of modern architecture in Beijing. It's located in the central business district of the city, in the Chaoyang District.
