This is a lengthy review of Yuting Inn Hotel located inside Liwan Plaza (South Tower, 5th Floor), we stayed in December 2023.
Finding the hotel: the main entrance is at the ground floor along Kangwang South Road. When we first arrived, we made the mistake of entering Liwan Plaza from the North (cos it’s just right there upon exiting Hualinsi Buddhist Temple metro subway station exit B). We took some time finding the hotel entrance on the South 5th floor, as the North and South Towers are only connected on a certain floor. It’s way more straightforward to enter from the ground lobby facing Kangwang South Road where an elevator goes directly to the 5th floor lobby. But if you’re interested in shopping for silver jewellery on the way, definitely go through the Liwan Plaza shops 😂
Getting from airport to the hotel: metro subway (fare per person is CNY7-8 depending which airport terminal, 55 mins ride): Hualinsi exit B only has stairs up, so it’s not ideal if you have a lot of luggage. There are other exits with elevator access but those would require further walking Didi (estimated fare CNY60, 49 mins): on hindsight, we probably should have taken this 😅
Hotel room: We arrived at 1130am and were checked into a room almost immediately 🙏🏼 Wifi was hit or miss. We did not have a local Chinese mobile number so staff assisted to connect our devices to networks hotspots from various other rooms. My connection only worked by having my phone near the door. Heater seems rather slow to warm up/ cool down despite the relatively small room. Everything else was well equipped.
Hotel location: I’d recommend it as a budget tourist visiting Guangzhou for the first time and staying 2 nights. It was a very short walk to Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street for eating/ shopping. Proximity to Hualinsi station was manageable too.
Side note: I often see Apple or Baidu maps recommended as a substitute for Google maps in China, but I found the best navigation map for me was actually the Didi map (within Alipay app) - it had every location I needed, even the exact metro subway exits. I also used MetroMan app to check for subway routes, fares...
