Xcellent Shifu Hotel — Hotel in Guangzhou City

Had a fabulous stay at the Voco Guangzhou Shifu. As diamond elite members, we had a complimentary room upgrade and we were blown away. The room on the 12th floor was huge, with a dining table by the curved window looking over the city and the sunset was right in front of us. There was a separate walk-in wardrobe and a large round bath tub in the bathroom. We received hot delicious homemade soup on arrival into the room, as well as a complimentary fruit bowl and first round of the mini bar. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and the whole room was exceptionally clean. The toilet was blocked but this was resolved within 10 minutes of calling reception. There are also communal washing machines and dryers to use at an additional small charge which we used. The breakfast buffet had many options to suit all tastes and the food was nice and hot, with some dim sum options as a treat. Also impressed with the gym - better than most hotel gyms we've used. Lots of modern machines and heavy weights. Excellent location, with the Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street mere seconds away. Plenty of places to eat and shop nearby. Had an amazing stay at Voco Guangzhou Shifu! Staff were professional, polite and helpful. Would like to mention Shaun from Front Office. He was very attentive provided excellent service! I sneezed couple of times while waiting for the key cards to be issued and he noticed it and offered face mask for me. Likewise, the housekeeper lady (didn’t catch her name) looking after level 9 was very caring and friendly. Every morning she would greet us and checked if we needed any additional amenities/ refills like water bottles, etc. as during the duration we opted out of housekeeping.

They do allow for Taobao order collection which was a huge plus and staff helped bring it up to the room.

Location is okay, with a stretch of shops right behind the hotel and near couple of popular restaurants like 陶陶居 but it’s not the most accessible to the metro. It’s about 10-15mins away to the metro.

One improvement is to keep the gym 24 hours. The gym was well equipped but closed at 9pm. Couldn’t use the gym as we usually go back after 9pm.

I can give this hotel five stars just because of their air conditioning. The weather in Guangzhou was super hot in summer but once you step in the hotel and the hotel room, the heat will be completely gone. I stayed in several hotels in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai before, none of their air conditioning was as good as this one. The other point worth mentioning is that you will get a pot of soup waiting for you in your room every evening during your stay if you are upgraded as a VIP. The soup was good and in fact, I was so curious about what we are getting next each time😋. Besides, their staff are friendly and helpful.
