Hong Kong's newest cruise terminal, located in the former runway of the famous old Kai Tak Airport in Kowloon Bay and opened in 2013. It's a big modern and convenient cruise terminal big enough for two cruise to berth. The terminal has two buildings (A and B).
Pros: • Big and modern terminal • Simple and convenient boarding flow • Plenty seating/waiting areas similar to airports • Fast wifi connection (no password required for login) • Has a sky park on the rooftop with a view of the Victoria Harbour towards Hong Kong Island (the park opens until 11 PM).
Cons: • Far from the city since the terminal is on the western part of Kowloon. It's also a bit far from the nearest MTR (metro) stations; you need to take a bus or taxi. • Lack of shops and other amenities like ATMs or foreign exchange • Going back to the ship takes a relatively long walk due to the length of the terminal • No interesting places around the terminal apart from a few shopping malls
-- Transport guides for tourists and seafarers: • Bus: Citybus no. 22: to Festival Walk / Kowloon Tong station (fare: HK$ 5.6) Citybus no. 22M: to To Kwa Wan via Kai Tak station (fare: HK$ 5.6) KMB no. 5R: to APM / Kwun Tong station (fare: HK$ 7.3)
All bus routes also accept contactless credit cards and mobile payments.
• Minibus: No. 86 to Telford Plaza / Kowloon Bay station
• MTR: The nearest stations are Kwun Tong or Kai Tak. Take bus no. 22M for Kai Tak station or 5R for Kwun Tong station. I don't recommend Kowloon Tong station as it is too far.
• Taxi: Fares to different areas are posted on the bus terminus outside the arrival hall. Make sure you have enough cash, and most taxis don't accept credit cards. Going to/from Tsim Sha Tsui usually costs around HK$ 100-120.
-- Nearby shopping malls: • MegaBox (take bus no. 22 or 22M) • APM (take bus no. 5R) • Telford Plaza (take...
Read moreThe terminal shows the lack of planning by the government. I got off the ferry and it was an absolute mess. There is a problem with the design of the ferry terminal. I got off the cruise and there was over 1000 people waiting in line for taxis. There were only one free transfer shuttle bus available and was chaotic as well the driver was very rude and didn't help with anything.
The atmosphere is so big and lots of space inside the terminal wasn't used. There were no businesses running inside the terminal (no restaurants, no shops and not even a convenience store). A large piece of boring infrastructure.
The road connection to the terminal is also ridiculous. Single lane for car traffic. But there are at least 4 large scale construction works all sharing the same road. Congestion is absolutely ridiculous there.
I will make amendments to my review once the terminal improves...
