The Tamar Development Project was restarted when Hong Kong chief executive Donald Tsang announced in his policy address for the financial year 2006 that Hong Kong's Central Government Offices, Legislative Council Building and the Office of the Chief Executive would be relocated to Tamar site, Admiralty.

Hong Kong Government announced four design plans for the construction of the new headquarters of the Government on 26 March 2007. One of the design plans which is named as "Tamar for Public (公眾的添馬)" suggested the space constructs for public with the theory of "Land always Green (地常綠)",and it would be connected to Wanchai Waterfront Promenade when the public area is built. This suggested design was finally accepted by the Government. The project began construction in February 2008 and the topping-out ceremony hosted on 25 January 2011.

Whilst the opening ceremony of the Central Government Offices was hosted by the Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang on 18 August 2011 and moving on-site started, Tamar Park opened to public on 10...

Tamar Park, located at Harcourt Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong, is a part of the Tamar Development Project. Adjacent to the new Central Government Offices and the Legislative Council Complex, it covers an area of around 1.76 hectares. The park was opened for public use on 10 October 2011. Designed with elegant simplicity, the park offers broad views of the picturesque Victoria Harbour. Spacious green lawns, rolling out like "green carpets", provide a swathe of verdant open space for visitors to stroll or sit. Other park facilities include a landscaped garden, water features, a floating platform, Tamar Corner, an amphitheatre and Tamar Cafe. The amphitheatre has a seating capacity of about 240 and is available for booking by organisations for staging cultural and leisure activities as well as performances. The Park will provide visitors with access to the Central Piers and the Star Ferry Pier via the adjoining Central and Western District Promenade...

A well conceived urban park in Hongkong’s Sheung Wan and Central district at the Admiralty. Like many HK parks, it has very well manicured grounds, and it’s so very tidy👏👏👏. Tamar Park has a number of modern sculptures. Among these are the Red Key to City and the Sound Waves, both very iconic to the modern city. Aside from the obvious, the top of The Key is a flower, the whole apparently is an artistic allegory representing the people and governance of Hong Kong. The park extends towards the seaside where Sheung Wan Central Promenade begins. A view of Kowloon Peninsula is across Victoria Harbour. The promenade ends at the Hongkong Observatory Wheel. The park looks popular to workers around Admiralty. It’s has lots of shady canopy from the trees of the park.

Tamer park on a late autumn/ winter weekday is a beautiful gem, you can chill peacefully on the meadow for picnic, yoga, or even just lie down and do nothing. You can hear birds singing like a fairytale, with moderate sea breeze. On summer day it is still nice if you are ok with the hot and humid weather in hk; wind could get really crazy tho, so many of the visitors might bring with them a tent. On weekend, it would be very very crowded, but it is just like most places in Hong Kong anyway. So if you’d like a very relaxing and peaceful day out there, always go on weekdays or in the evening.

A poetic symphony of light, air, and memory, Dancing Water Drops, 2025 by Simon Ma transforms urban green into a dreamscape of shimmering forms. Suspended teardrops, crafted from recycled plastic, invite both reflection and play. Their fluid shapes echo nature’s gentlest gesture, rain, yet stand still and monumental against the city’s steel skyline. By merging ecological awareness with sensory poetry, Simon Ma offers a meditation on impermanence, renewal, and the fragile beauty suspended in each moment. A quiet masterpiece in motion.
