Victoria Peak Garden is public park found by way of a 15-20 minute walk up Mount Austin Road from the Peak Galleria and Peak Tram Tower building at Victoria Peak. The park is open 24 hours a day, includes a small car park, public bathrooms and a kiosk stand.
Historically, this location made up the grounds of the Governor of Hong Kong's Summer Residence known as the Mountain Lodge. The lodge is gone these days, having been replaced with a city park with wooded pavement trails, open grassy areas and British colonial style garden area with landscaped flowerbeds. The Governor's Walk trail is another nice way to approach the garden, linking up with the Peak Circle trail down below.
Visitors will find plenty of open space for children to play. The park is also pet-friendly so expect to see a few dogs running around near their owners. There are a handful of pavilion structures, a large Chinese style pavilion with nice harbour viewpoints and the Former Lodge Gate building which is a declared historical monument in Hong Kong. This is also neat to see as part of visits to the...
Read moreThe Hong Kong government announced on 25 September 2005 that the site will be redeveloped along with the rest of the Peak area.[1]
The ample open space, vast amount of grassy lawn and stream course at the site will be preserved. To bring out the heritage elements, the garden will be enhanced with Victorian style features including gazebos, benches, sun-dials and colourful flowers. Artifacts from the Victorian era, such as stone pillars and carvings, will be displayed to enrich the visitors' experience.
The new pavilion will comprise four pergolas at the corners and Victorian colonnades to link up the pergolas. This will offer ample shade and a resting place for the public. The existing kiosk and toilet will also be reconstructed to boost the garden's Victorian ambience.
The $142.6 million tourist district improvement project, scheduled to finish around the end of 2007, will help create three new tourism nodes - Mount Austin Playground, Gate Lodge and Peak Garden,...
Read moreYou will have a spectular view over Hong Kong' s Harbour City. To get this view you can go by tram (in combination with a visit to Madame Tussauds it costs about 300 HK $. As we would have to stand in line for 2 hours ( we went there around midday) we chose to go there by foot. This is only recomended when you feel really well as it takes about an hour and it is very steep. When upstairs you should go along the Pok Fu Lam Tree Walk which is a 3.2 km long roundway. It is easy to walk. When you are in a hurry start your walk along the trail in Lugard Road. After 20 to 25 minutes you will reach different viewing points from which you have an amazing view of Hong Kong Skyline. Best, it is for free! To go back we took a bus, line 15. The bus station is in a park house. We went to Central Station and paid 9.8 HK $ each. It took about 30 minutes. I don't know why, but Google Maps don't propose going to the Peak by bus although it is clearly possible at...
