This was the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Which is strange being in Hong Kong an Asian country, it's a bit like when I tasted the best curry in the word, In Tokyo Japan. Go figure, you have to go to Japan to eat the best curry in the world I had to go to Hong Kong to taste the best Mexican food I have ever tasted. When our hosts said that we were going for Mexican , my heart sank, it was the last thing on my mind, personally I have never been a fan of Mexican , except for Natchos drenched in melted cheese combined with Avacardo , sour cream and salsa. What made this dish stand out was the plate was onto of another plate, very strange I thought until I touched the plate and burnt my fingers.... oops, a true first for me, Natchos on a burning hot plate ment they stayed warm, the cheese remains melted and the warm combined with the cold avocado, cold sour cream and the cold salsa mixed in with the humidity of the Hong Kong night air made for a combinations of sence that displayed my jet lag , awkwardness of wanting to go to bed but had to be polite for our hosts trying to understand the social etiquette of hanging in Hong Kong. This was followed by two dishes that I have never come across before. A great big chunk of steak seared to perfection on top of a bed of cheese black beans pickled jelipinos tomato and something else that I cant remember. I kept wondering where the Tako was to wrap up the dish , it never came , what did come was a huge chunk of salmon that was obvisouly seared in the same way but the skin , wonderfully crispy, slid off the too of the fish leaving the salon in a warm flaky condition that left all the guests looking with envy and politeness trying to navigate the social anxiety where we all knew we wanted to devour it all..... oh...
Read moreFood is ok, 4 for hk and real 3. Portions relative to price for HK is very fair. The owner maybe mexican or latinx but the food is not. In fairness, hk does not have mexican.
Here are a few observations: 1/ mexico doesnt have hard shell tacos, it is an american invention just like ‘chinese’ fortune cookies invented in new york 2/ their chorizo is not chorizo, it is ground pork with no seasoning 3/ nachos dont have olives usually 4/ this is not pico de gallo, large chunks of tomatoes with sautéed onions is not pico de gallo. 5/ the enchilada is like a ‘mexican’ lasagna rather than components layered on
I get this is hk but as an int’l city, someone should represent the food. This city lacks mexican, although hatch (recently opened) with their rotational menu does a decent job of mexican tacos.
And for all the reviewers who know mexican, i doubt it. I am asian american but grew up in cali and lived in san diego and went to mexico because it was my backyard. I ate mexican food like...
Read moreIf you're looking for a fantastic Mexican dining experience, look no further than Xoco restaurant. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by friendly staff and a lively atmosphere that sets the tone for a great meal.
The menu is filled with an array of Mexican dishes, from classic tacos and burritos to more adventurous options like chimichanga and taquitos.
One minor drawback to the restaurant is its size – it can be a bit small, especially during peak hours, which can make it feel crowded. Additionally, the noise level can be a bit high at times, but I guess this is a testament to the popularity of the restaurant.
Despite these minor issues, Xoco is a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious and affordable...
