During a holiday week, traveling through Shanghai can be a nightmare. Fortunately, the Jianguo Hotel provided me with free transportation to my accommodation. What a service considering it's premier location in Xuhui district. Every morning I receive a personal wake up call with a hearty knock on my door. It's nice to be awake early to make the most of my day. Included in my 10 day hotel package is food delivered three times daily - served hot (but not always fresh). So far the white race with a dash of salt is my favorite - simple, filling and an authentic regional dish. ||||The room set up is simple, but it does allow for me to create space for morning mediations, yoga, HIIT, strength-training, core, barre... and the soundproofing seems to be great as my neighbors haven't said anything. As you can see, the hotel provides a wide range of activities to go with your nourishing meals - you. just have to take advantage of what they have to offer. The review below mine points out the church - unfortunately I don't have that view, but I do have more sunshine (October) and I can still hear the church bells, which is quite nice. Bonus: the window opens! ||||Despite their overly cautious hygienic measures, I do have to dock off points for the lack of care underneath the bed. I have allergies and there's a lot going on underneath there, which must have been a bit of an oversight. The room also smells vaguely of smoke even though there is a strict warning that if I do light up a cig I will burn the hotel down. It surprises me the smoke detector is covered with saran wrap, but they must have been in the process of remodeling and just forgotten to remove the protective transportation guild. Also the elevator looks like it goes to a morgue, but you won't be in there for long so just close your eyes and...
Read moreFirst of all, we can’t start this review without mentioning the lovely care Jianguo staff provided to my wife and I during our 2 weeks staycation in the beautiful district of Xuhui, Shanghai. During the whole stay, we were provided with consistent room service, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, temperature and PCR tests. Staff is so nice they call you every time the meals are ready in front of your door. The room size is more than convenient to allow you sport activities as well as home office activity. We do not put 5 stars as we would recommend another fragrance diffuser in the public facilities. Indeed, 3 times a day someone come to spray this powerful and long lasting scent in the corridor. It might give you some headaches, but nothing to worry about. Last but not least, an unforgettable view on the most beautiful cathedral of Shanghai, saint Nicolas Church. If you are facing this beautiful place, you will be lucky to see the sun from 2:50 pm till 4:30pm (during winter). Open the window, close you eyes, yes, you are in paradise!|Thank you very much, see you next...
Read moreThat it isn't the newest hotel might be OK, but that the typical service and friendliness must be completely absent?! No welcome but a bored and annoyed sight reaches you when you ask an additional question. Don't come early morning in stress, if you are lucky, the only guy there will try to move towards you as slow as possible, probably to avoid dust to fly off. Breakfast is on lower cantine level and instead a good morning, a "room number" is barking at you. The rooms are clean. But in a 4 star hotel I except at least a tea bag in the room. The walls quite thin, you hear the neighbours clearly but city noise is ok... Guess the windows good. No, can absolutely not recommend that place... For 2 stars ok but as there I'll expect a friendly contact with the guests. Price is too high too for this room and hotel equipment level. The two points I only give for...
