It is a place of beautiful Neoclassical style, it was rebuilt and had several names, the first was called Ramirez Coliseum, Ramirez for the person who ordered it to build, was a lover of gambling lost everything but then recovered it and sent to build the theater, at that time people brought their chairs and went with their purchases and if we liked the play they threw the tomatoes, the onions. After Ramirez died and the theater was in charge of the Maldonado brothers it continued working for a time but then it closed and President Rafael Nuñez expropriated the owners and started the new construction of the theater made by the architect Pietro Cantini, during its construction it had the name of National Theater, but when it was going to be inaugurated it was changed to the name of Teatro Cristóbal Colón or as it is known Teatro Colón, because the date of the fourth centenary of the "discovery" of America by Christopher Columbus was near. The plays, operas, musical shows and others that are presented there are of great prestige, there are guided tours within the theater, you can ask at the box office, and on the page they publish the talks that there are with musicians of traditional music in which can also be attended.

The venue went through a three year restoration where they did a magnificent job not only in the main chamber but the foyer as well. This foyer is specially notable since that's where they hold small, almost personal, concerts including "Colón acústico": free midday concerts. Highly recommend this theater if you have a chance to attend a spectacle, or alternatively to take the tour inside Italian architect Pietro Cantini's national monument: Teatro Colon

Really beautiful building outside and inside, it has parking nearby. I did not see access for wheelchairs because there are a lot of stairs. Chairs were confortable and the place had enough ventilation and ilumination. It did not have a cafeteria inside but outside you can find severl options. If you arrive with time you can visit the center of the city very beautiful The play was well organized very fast the entrance and at the you could leave quickly.

It's a beautiful theatre inside; the effort to maintain the original 1892 building while adapting it to the new technologies available is outstanding; However, the exterior is an affront to the La Candelaria neighborhood, because it stands out very badly against every building 4 blocks around. This is the oldest part of the city (built from the 16th to the beginning of the 18th century) and the designers didn't care at all about that, because they built a pile of modernist cubes on top of the...
