What a Find! Delicious Food and Great Atmosphere!
Do not be put off by the location of this fantastic pizza-focused restaurant. You have to enter through a corridor of small shops, so it appears that there Is not a restaurant or anything of note. At night, a guard must unlock a gate to let you into the corridor, which made us question what kind of place we were getting ourselves into. Well, that odd entrance and a pathway led to a fantastic restaurant!
Pizzería Madre is a quirky, but lovely restaurant, with a wood-fired pizza oven. The menu has a number of salads and pasta options, in addition to plenty of types of pizza, made to order. The wine list was short, but quite good, with excellent, reasonably priced bottles of Argentinian Malbec, for example. They featured a full bar, as well, for cocktails and beer.
We shared a salad of mixed greens, avocados, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and almonds, which was excellent, with fresh ingredients that were full of flavor. The two of shared a medium-sized pizza that was topped with arugula, Iberian ham, and large slices of Parmesan cheese – it was terrific. We had an excellent bottle of Malbec to accompany our meal.
Pizzería Madre is a gem....
Read moreCool space, pricey for mediocre Italian Food We went to Madre Restaurant following the recommendations of some friends. This restaurant is located in a special secret corner of La Candelaria neighborhood. At first, we were really amazed of finding this cool space inside a very traditional Candelaria Building. I asked for vegan dishes, and they told me they don't have. Luckily, they could arrange a Margarita Pizza, without mozzarella and stracciatella cheeses, which were disappointingly replaced by some very thin slides of avocado and some basil leaves. I must confess the pizza crust was good. My friend ordered an octopus appetizer dish and in general in was okay but the bread coming along was disappointing with its cold and dry texture. The tiramisu was over thick and creamy in taste with very tiny portion of lady finger bread. Finally, the female restroom wasn't really private, having a mirror on the sealing covering the whole two toilets, so we could see the other person on the next toilet. If you are looking for some quality food, Madre restaurant is not worthy for the price...
Read moreI've had better meals for much less. Our most disappointing restaurant experience in Sudamérica.
Asked for the steak 1/4 (medium rare) but came out 4/4 (well done), super chewy. Horrible.
Confusion over wine ultimately created the worst customer service experience. The only wine on the menu was verano wine by the glass (what is it? Not explained on the menu in either Spanish or English versions), which we thought we were ordering, but was actually standard wine. Went to pay and discovered we'd been charged 35000 more than expected. Staff and arrogant manager confirmed standard wine is missing from their menu but refused to shift on the price.
Manager offered no resolution or apology. Eventually gave up and paid, but without any propina / tip.
Decor was nice. Live music was great...but for a bar not a...
