Costa Canyoning (Waterfall rappelling tour) — Attraction in Bahía Ballena

Great tour and possibly the best excursion we have participated in from all of our travels. Very personable and skilled guide who kept us laughing and learning at the same time. We had a small group in total (5) and we all enjoyed some bevies and snacks after the day was done. It’s not bad even if you have a heights issue( I had a tougher time with the mountainous drive up to the falls than the rappelling). Some previous advice that was given regarding taking your own photos from the bottom I agree with. Just make sure you have protection for your phone/camera as you obviously get wet and could also possibly slip on the rocks. We were not expecting any photos so the photos supplied by our guide was an added bonus. The only added advice I could give is that like in all Costa Rica, Cash is King. I learned that other people on our tour who agreed to pay cash on site, received a significant discount on their package. We booked and paid online ahead of time. Costa Canyoning is a complete MUST DO in all of Costa Rica! You get to pass through a series of beautiful waterfalls of different heights, which is not always the case with other similar adventure tours. We went during the “wet” season in mid-July, but there was only a short amount of extra light rain at the end of it, and the rest of the time was with beautiful weather. The water was a perfect temperature to dive into the pools at the end of each climb down. The guides Carlos and Juan are two both amazing people… kind, patient and make you feel very safe, even for our first time canyoning. It was really amazing to have them as our guides, as we felt how much they respect the surrounding nature. The lunch was very refreshing after the adventure and we are so thankful to have the opportunity to chat with them and enjoy all the generous photos they took of us. We just spent one of the best days ever on vacation with Carlos and Marlon, and Costa Canyoning! We were a group of 4, that had little experience and my wife and I are in our early 60’s, and the other couple around 50. Carlos showed us everything and made us feel comfortable. He is easy to like and very knowledgeable. He gave us confidence that we would do great. Going over 6 waterfalls, the last over 80 feet tall was such a highlight! It was work, doing it all. We are a little sore as we did some dropping on our butts, and hitting a few rocks, but nothing too bad at all. We always had Marlon down below keeping us safe on the line. We all had the best time! One of the best excursions we’ve ever had on any vacation. Oh yes, the meal they feed you is incredibly delish! The Mahi mahi meal was straight up killer! We were not expecting that!
