The good: ||- the hostel is located in a quiet area about 10 mins walk from the main street||- big kitchen||- friendly host (the grandma, rest didn't really peak to me)||- near the waterfall (about 15 mins up hill)||- near a small creek||||The bad: ||- near a small creek: mosquitoes galore||- kitchen with little equipment, no spoons for example||- no signs at the hostel: I happened on the premises just to ask them whether they knew where the hostel was, turned out to be them. A sign outside the premises would be nice.||||||The hostel is located near a small creek. This means good views but also lots of mosquitoes and other bugs. I would expect the rooms to be bug proofed and have mosquito nets, but no. It's Bring Your Own Net, and you'll need it. Literally all the screens on the windows were open on the sides, and the door and the doorpost (and the wall) didn't quite meet all around which meant that at some parts there was half an inch of space for bugs to fly or crawl in. In my first hour I must have killed a dozen mosquitoes, on my second night I got rid of 8 worm thingies. No fun.||Shower was nice and big (could fit a football team) but the ' shower head' was basically an open tap...
Read moreI've read the other reviews and nobody seems to have mentioned that it is so hard to find!! The building is about another 100 down the road from where Google maps implies, and on the other side. It's set behind a large 'barn' full of timber. Once you have found it the rooms are big and clean. Set next to a nice stream it's certainly quiet and a nice place to stay.||||The rooms were very bright and airy, but this did give a lack of privacy to what was meant to be a private room. While we were at the end of a long landing area anyone could have walked up and looked through the floor to ceiling windows (not concerned about people watching me sleep, more the security when we're out)||||Kitchen area was a good size and clean, I only went in it once so can't really judge beyond this.||||Our room had very annoying sliding doors that were a nightmare to lock when we went out.||||Bathroom was functional, shower was like a tap pouring on you,no shower head. It was though clean at least.||||Overall I would stay here again but having no signs anywhere on the road, and the at best OK bathroom has to mark it down, it's...
Read moreWe just returned from Uvita from a service trip to work at Forjando Alas, the student center run by Kids' Foundation for Uniting Nations, which is right around the corner across from the school. This year, we had 13 teenagers and 4 adults and Mari, Dalila and Julio all took such great care of all of us. She is the best cook and we enjoyed every delicious meal! They are like family to us each time go. The house is beautiful, but the surroundings are breathtaking. The rambling river alongside of the house lulls you to sleep, but the howler monkeys may wake you up at night! It is worth it, though. Every minute of our time spent there was memorable. Best place to stay in...
