The ride was lovely, BUT the customer service was terrible and ruined our experience. Firstly, our guide was unfriendly when we arrived. He didn't ask our names at all or allow us to introduce ourselves (at the beginning or throughout the whole ride!) - he didn't even tell us our horses names or anything about them until we asked. He was also very rude and unfriendly to my husband, who is inexperienced riding horses. He growled at him before we left for not holding his reins tight enough, but instead of telling him what he wanted he just kept growling "shorten your reins, shorten your reins!". It made us all in the group quite uncomfortable. If you are going to do this trek, opt for the 2.5-hour ride - we did the 3.5-hour ride as it said on the website "3.5 hours of horseback riding". We barely rode for 3 hours total (which I have proof of duration with timestamped photos). When I queried this huge discrepancy in the timing the owner gaslit me and lied to me, saying it was 3.5 hours and that they saw us at the stables at 12:40pm which was physically impossible as we had walked and had left the stables well over 20mins before then (luckily I had taken many photos, including when we began the ride and after we had left which were timestamped and location stamped!!). Im not sure why they felt the need to lie or gaslight us, it's a real shame that we were treated so poorly as the ride itself was nice, we saw lots of sloths in the trees and walked along the beach & through the jungle. When paying such a large amount, there needs to be some consistency in the timing and the level of customer service - we understand there is always a margin of error either side for timing. But when you advertise a 2.5 hour ride and a 3.5 hour ride with a large cost difference, it needs to be fair & reflective for the customer. To blame the customer and lie to/about us (even though they have cameras at the stables so could check everything if they wanted to) it was really poor behaviour and ruined the...
Read moreWe couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience. The horses are in excellent condition, clearly loved and cared for with so much attention, which made us feel completely safe throughout the ride. The landscapes were breathtaking, and we were surrounded by an abundance of wildlife. We saw sloths, monkeys, and many other animals, honestly more than on any other tour we have done in Costa Rica. It was a true immersion in nature, and the horses made us feel like we were part of it all, moving in harmony with the environment. From the very first messages, the team was kind and helpful, assisting us not only with the booking but also giving us wonderful tips about where to go and what to do in the area. During the tour we learned so much, both about the history of the region and about the horses themselves. Some of us were complete beginners, actually a few were terrified at first, but the guides, went above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable. One of us was an experienced rider and had the chance to run, while the others stayed in a calm pace. What impressed us the most was how Jimmy, who was the lead guide, managed everything in perfect balance with such a mixed group, guaranteeing the safety of the less experienced riders. Of course, running was not allowed for those who did not have the skills, even though some of us would have loved to try, but we completely understand that it could be dangerous for beginners. We also took a magical break on the beach, where the horses were free to roll in the sand and play. We never knew horses could show such joyful behavior, it reminded us of dogs playing and it was simply beautiful to witness. This was far more than just a horseback ride. It was an unforgettable experience that brought us close to nature, animals, and the spirit of Costa Rica. If you come here, you absolutely cannot miss this tour. There is truly nothing like it, and no one else treats their horses with this much love...
Read moreThis was our first time riding horses so you could say we were extreme beginners and kind of anxious from the start. Jimmy made us feel comfortable around the horses and gave us a quick lesson on how to control the horses before we left. We chose the 1.5 hour tour through the jungle and on the beach. We rode down 4 of the beaches along the coast of Puerto Viejo while going in and out of the jungle the entire time. He was knowledgeable on the wildlife and plants in the area and made sure to stop and show us a sloth sleeping in a tree! The horses were very well behaved and we rode at a slow/relaxing pace the whole time - I'm sure you could go faster if you are more experienced. Overall, I would recommend this tour to anyone! It was a beautiful and affordable way to see everything the beaches and jungle have to offer - Jimmy even took pictures for us! I would recommend call for reservations a day in advance, as they have to feed and prepare the horses 2 hours in advance of the tour!
Note: This was hard for us to find but it's actually quite simple. If you map to "Caribe Horse Riding Club", it will bring you up a long dirt road to the stables which is NOT where you want to go as you cannot take the horses down from here. Go one road further and follow signs to the Jaguar Rescue Center. When you pull in, the Jaguar Rescue Center and parking will be on your right. Keep driving straight past the center all the way down until the road ends (about 1 minute further). You will see cows on your left and the road will end near a house. This is where Jimmy will meet you and you may see horses tied up on the fence waiting if he is...
