Huge disappointment! The hotel claims to be a 3-star hotel, as they inform on Google Maps, but it's nothing like that. I asked the receptionist about it, and she said they don’t have any confirmed or certified stars. The rooms are old and in need of renovation, and most of the equipment needs replacing. The bathroom had a rusty faucet and a broken shower. To make matters worse, it was also dirty. The toilet was unwashed, and the switches were sticky, which I hated touching. We stayed for 2 nights. On the first day, there was no time to intervene as we checked-in late (7 pm) and were tired after the journey. The next day I made a complaint, in response were offered to change a room, which was a bit cleaner, but it still had the same flaws and needed refurbishment. I explained it’s not a option for us, especially as half of our stay had already passed. I offered that if they removed from google maps that they are a 3-star hotel and gave me a fair discount, then I would stop from sharing the whole story. (I'm generally careful about writing negative reviews; I usually give positive reviews to appreciate places that deserve it - you can check my history). They offered me a 7% discount, but I said that it’s not adequate for the situation. Finally, I talked to the owner, who began to negate all the issues I raised and said that I’m making them up just to tap him for not paying. In this situation, I rejected his 7% discount and paid the full price. The guy looked a little surprised, but even that didn't make him say "I'm sorry."
If I had to point out one advantage of this place, it is the staff who was friendly and helpful all the time. It seems that the problem of the hotel is the owner and his mindset. All in all, this is the worst place we've stayed in Costa Rica. It's hugely overpriced. We stayed in other tourist regions, e.g. La Fortuna and we paid half the price for much better quality...
Read moreDefinitely a little dated & needs some work, but that being said, the rooms were decent & the staff was very nice. When we arrived, we discovered that the travel agency had booked us into a room with one bed (we told the travel agency we needed 2 beds as we were 2 single women traveling together). Luckily they had plenty of rooms open & were able to upgrade us for free into a huge room with 3 beds & a futon. We even had our own little private patio. The pool area is cute & we had it mostly to ourselves the 3 days we were there. The road is crazy that it's on, full of big rocks, but not much they can do about that. It's a little off the beaten path, which is nice, because it's quite & not crowded. Great little restaurant a couple places down on the same side of the street. Definitely go there & get a fruit smoothy! Empanadas are great too! Beach is also right at the end of the road. The bar wasn't really open while we were there, but it was probably too slow to bother staffing. The only complaint I really have is that the breakfast was exactly the same every day, which got old after 3 days. Coffee & water are available for free all day,...
Read moreWe loved the warm welcome to Bugbutik from Minerva! We had issues with our original Airbnb that we booked so I walked into Bugbutik to check on availability and Minerva was there so happy and willing to accommodate us. We were very pleased with our stay. The rooms a cozy, unique and clean. We had a bungalow with a wonderful patio looking out at the jungle and view of the sweet little Costa Rican critters! We enjoyed the breakfast every morning and lazy days by the pool. It was close to the beach and walking distance to restaurants. Across the street we rented bikes from the Peace Garden. Minerva the assistant manager was so wonderful and helpful and friendly. She helped us arrange transport to San Jose and gave us some wonderful ideas on places to eat and places to go, We would definitely stay there again when we return to Cocles,...
