What I liked|The hotel is in a perfect location, biking down the strip from Playa Cocles into Puerto Viejo de Talamanca town on a bike I rented from the hotel was one of the best parts of my trip. The hotel is located very close to La Nena's (the best Caribbean food restaurant in Cocles and arguably Puerto Viejo, in my opinion). The agoutis that wandered around the hotel outside were adorable and the hotel architecture was beautiful, it looked even better than the pictures displayed. The staff (Griselda, Juan and the lady with the brown hair who helped out with breakfast - I unfortunately did not get her name) were lovely and always willing to help. I improved some of my Spanish through my daily conversations with Griselda.||What could be improved|- The wifi was not reliable - luckily for me my phone's network provider worked quite well, so I did not need to rely on the wifi too much but if you do plan on coming to CR, you must make sure your network provider provides a good internet service as unstable wifi connection was a problem throughout something all of Costa Rica, not just at this hotel.||- The response times via emails and messages could be better - The delay in response time and the fact that a system error meant that my booking was temporarily cancelled made me a little apprehensive about staying at the hotel but in the end, I am glad I did.||- Doors do not lock properly - The hotel doors do not lock properly with the keys provided and can easily be opened with a little bit of force even after they have been 'locked'. The staff claimed that the area (Playa Cocles) was very safe and that the doors not locking properly was not going to be an issue as they had plenty of security and cameras (which was all true during my time there). However the doors not being able to lock properly was a red flag for me and I sincerely hope the hotel will consider investing in proper door locks for guests.||- Very easy for mosquitos to get in - I received a lot of mosquito bites when here, so you do need to be meticulous about keeping your doors closed and relying on the AC to stay cool - which worked well. The excellent thing is that there were NO cockroaches in my (upper floor) room which is something I unfortunately experienced at another Air BNB in San Jose.||Overall I would stay at the hotel again. I went to both La Fortuna and Puerto Viejo during my time in Costa Rica and Puerto Viejo was by far my favourite out of...
Read moreThis place is neat, like leaving Costa Rica and going to S.E. Asia. Each building is a room, has two beds, each with a mosquito net) a table and chairs, and a bathroom. During the day the windows are open and the fans are on. At night, you close the windows and keep the fans on, there is no AC. Make sure you put the mosquito nets around the bed at night so you don’t get bit. The shower in the room never got warm even though the instructions were clear as to which was hot and which was cold. But really it was just cold or less cold haha. There are bats that live between the inner roof and the outer roof. At night, if you are unaware you will probably think you have a rat in your room… rest assured nothing is in your room, it’s just the bats. You can hear the howler monkeys regularly throughout the day. Breakfast is good, the portions are large, but the area to eat is small. You will see lizards, frogs, and agouti (these were neat). It’s quite far from the hustle and bustle of the town. The pool is nice, and the grounds are well kept. Hotel staff was hit and miss, some of them were great, others were borderline rude. Overall, this place was a cool experience, and one I may do again down the road, but not in any of our...
Read moreI booked here because of the position, it's not in the noisy town but an easy walk to a number of nice restaurants. The gorgeous beaches of Punta Uva are an easy bike or tuktuk ride away.
The breakfast in the garden is lovely! They bring you a big plate of fruit and a dish of your choice. I especially loved the pancakes.
The premises are well kept, and the swimming pool is a nice bonus.
Friendly staff at the reception. (Viva Argentina!🙂)
We had a view to the sea from our bungalow's little terrace. Very relaxing to sit on a rocking chair and watch the world go by!
The Balinese style bungalows are beautiful but as there are no real windows (just wooden shutters) you get some traffic noise from the road. Luckily not much during the night.
If AC is a must for you, this place is not for you, there are just ceiling fans in the bungalows. For us, this was not an issue at all, the fans were sufficient.
The only thing that's really missing is a mini bar/fridge. You get free water bottles at the reception but they're pretty warm and there's no way to get cold water to drink.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and I'd happily...
