We have just spent a week staying at the beautiful Casa las Nubes in Tulemar. This totally stunning villa has everything we could have wanted as the perfect holiday home. It has a lovely open feel throughout the kitchen and front room with light flooding in everywhere. The wonderful views from the infinity pool and terrace beside the kitchen are simply breathtaking. All the bedrooms are large and roomy but the master bedroom where we stayed with windows all around and a wraparound terrace was amazing. Waking up to the views towards the beach and sea over the tropical greenery will stay with you long after you have finished your holiday. We also loved the immediate area where we would walk around the lush tropical grounds where we saw some lovely natural wildlife including sloths, exotic birds like the toucans, macaws and even hummingbirds, and there were plenty of white faced monkeys everywhere. There is even a private open gym and yoga studio surrounded by the local jungle like vegetation with views towards the beach and just two minutes walk through the gardens. Good for the soul.|We loved the 10 minute walk through the trees and vegetation to the perfect private beach although you can take the courtesy minibus which runs at your convenience. The icing on the cake are the beautiful sunsets from the beach only beaten by the even better views of the sunset from the comfort of the villa with a glass of chilled white or a gin and tonic in hand. Also the staff kept the villa spotless and were friendly and helpful at all times. A truly fabulous time at a stunning villa and I would thoroughly recommend Casa las Nubes to anyone looking for a carefree week...
Read moreWe stayed at Casa Merlin for 9 nights. We originally booked for 3 nights but everything about staying at Casa Merlin was so comfortable, elegant and relaxed, beautiful and convenient, that we could not imagine enjoying out time in the area, better anywhere else. The grounds are like a sweet, secret garden with lovely paths leading to the pool. The hotel is a little back from the road so surrounding the pool are tall trees and it is the sound of birdsong as you float in the pool. I saw a pair of Toucans in the tree at the front gate! On two different days! You walk down the lane and cross the road that takes you to Playa Cockles in one direction or Punta Uva/ Manzanilla in the other direction. A real beauty is that if you cross the road, directly opposite the lane to Casa Merlin, is a beautiful horse trail that leads to the most lovely little bay- Playa Chiquita. It is just a two minute walk down this well maintained horse trail to arrive onto this sweet beach. If you stroll along to the left you quickly reach lovely beach side restaurants to have breakfast or dinner and drinks later. The rooms at Casa Merlin are so comfortable and everyone there is ready to help with anything in the nicest, warm and professional manner. It was my fiance's birthday while we were there and Silvia decorated the room with balloons and a message written in flowers in the bed -!!!?! Truly, you could go to this area just to stay at Casa Merlin. Or if you are in the area for 1 night or 10, I could not recommend this hotel more for comfort, natural beauty, access to everywhere, and...
Read morethe reception management Sylvia and Leo were great ! so helpful, friendly and caring . they gave us good tips for the area. the saltwater pool was fantastic as the sea was too dangerous with riptide and waves for swimming at the beach. very close to pretty and quiet beaches playa Chiquita (via beautiful rustic jungle path) , and also about 10 min walk to playa cocles . recommend getting a bicycle ( which can be rented from Merlin ) , using a car , or hiring a scooter ( the electric ones from Puerto Viejo available) as getting to restaurants can be far and too dark at night for walking. the shared kitchen is also helpful for self catering as there is no restaurant on site . great to have coffee and filtered water also available for guests . We stayed for a week and our bed linens were changed 1x , towels refreshed daily. Very thoughtful display of swan towels and rose petals for our honeymoon on arrival . Set back into the jungle , expect critters of all kinds. The only sad thing about Costa Rica generally is the cockroach issue which we experienced also here at Merlin.. this said, it was the 3rd hotel of 4 we stayed in (all highly rated) where we saw one in the bathroom. The sewages systems could do with...
