Unbelievable historic and religious complex that is still preserved almost exactly as it was in the 6th century! Beautiful mosaics and statue carvings. It is set right against the town walls overlooking the glittering Adriatic waters! Truly a well deserved UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the mosaics go back to the 4th century and you can see the ancient Roman walls that connect to the structure. The main building that is currently a museum and place of worship is an almost complete 6th century building with just minor updates. It really is like stepping back in time! Tickets are 10 euros and you can go through on your own or pay extra for an audioguide. The signs are in English, Italian and Spanish as well as Croatian. It was not very crowded at all when I went on a Monday afternoon in late June.

The first church was founded here in the 4th century but the present church is mostly 6th century with a 16th century bell tower stuck on top. Entry to the basilica complex was €10 and once we'd let a couple of large tours go ahead it was remarkably quiet. The building is largely intact and has some beautiful floor mosaics and carvings. I opted to climb the 6 flights of rickety wooden stairs to the top of the bell tower but I'm not sure it was worth it for the view! The basilica itself though was certainly worth it with a very different floor plan and feel to later churches and some wonderful Byzantine mosaics in glorious colour. It was lovely to not be on a tour and therefore have plenty of time to wander round at our own pace.

This Basilica is the highlight of Porec or as it was known in Roman era , Parentium. Euphrasian Basilica was a church built by episcope Euphrasius and it comprises of a basilica, a baptistery, the bell tower( must see the view from there), and a sacristy and is of Byzantine architecture. It is a world UNESCO heritage and the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Porec and Pula. Great floor mosaics still are intact though the place has had a lot of fires and various accidents and are preserved in the church garden. The tour costs 10 euro but it is definitely something that a visitor must see.

Visited during the morning and it was really beautiful with no one around. This 6th-century UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning example of early Byzantine architecture. The basilica's intricate mosaics, particularly in the apse, are among the finest in the world, depicting biblical scenes with extraordinary detail and vibrant colors. The basilica has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,500 years, making it not only an artistic marvel but also a site of deep historical and religious significance. Half price for students. Nice view of the sea from the walls too.

Recensione Cav. Sergio Pacori, foto di Amelia Valle.

I really loved this place. Overall historical atmosphere is great here and you can learn a lot just by looking at what this place. It was built in 6th century (well, in 4th if you don't take into account that it was rebuild practically from scratch) and you can really feel the connection with something older than you. It costs 50 HRK per ticket per adult and it is absolutely worth it. If you come to Porec then it is one thing that you absolutely have to see. Also - glorious sight from the top of the belfry.
