Leżący w północno-zachodnim krańcu murów miejskich bastion Martinengo (nazwany tak na cześć weneckiego dowódcy zmarłego w drodze do oblężonego miasta) stanowi jeden z najlepszych przykładów kunsztu architektury obronnej weneckich inżynierów.

Bastion ma kształt grotu strzały i zbudowano go z wykorzystaniem naturalnego podłoża skalnego, dzięki czemu atakujący od strony lądu nie mieli możliwości wykonania podkopu.

Całkiem niedawno bastion został odrestaurowany z pomocą środków Unii Europejskiej, odzyskując przy tym swój dawny blask. Warto zaplanować dłuższą chwilę na jego odkrycie.

Warto przy tym wspomnieć, że na całej długości murów obronnych Wenecjanie umieścili aż 15 bastionów. Wstęp jak w...
