This is one of the most owrwhelmingly beautiful Baroque styled churches in the Czech Republic. The exterior is nice but the entire is very, very owrwhekming!!!
The building stems from the prototype of a Jesuit church with a ring of chapels above the main nave. The most expressive element of the undulated frontispiece of the cathedral is the monumental portal with twisted columns, a balcony with a balustrade and cartouche. The cathedral's interior has lavish stucco work and painted ornamentation. The church was built on the site of a former Minorite Monastery, part of the oldest Jesuit college in Moravia. The original church was destroyed by the Swedish army but was not restored as it was not big enough. The new church was constructed following the design and a wooden model by M. Klein under the guidance of L. Klöckel. During a visit by Cardinal Aldobrandini, later Pope Clement VIII, or on state visits by emperors, the church could hold as many as 2,500 people.
