I really enjoyed my experience at this museum. It has a lot of really interesting information and exhibits. Be sure to give yourself enough time if you want to read the information. The exhibits take you through every era of Quito history. Unfortunately, I had to speed through the second half because I only gave myself 1.5 hours. I paid $8, and still it was well worth it. Oh, and there's a sweet kitty who will let you pet her.

The information is all in Spanish, so make sure your phone is charged and your Google Translate is ready before you go if you'll need...

This museum is very biased. There is a tiny part about pre colonial era, but most of the expositions seemingly glorifies christians settlers with very poor critisism about enforcing a culture and enslaving people. The museum finishes with the landing on the moon (by neil armstrong) to illustrate quitos modern days, as if there is nothing to say about Quito of today, its new struggles, ect.

I dint not do the research, but it surely feels like the museum is church owned and pushing a religious agenda.

Informations are very, VERY, one sided...

Absolute must-see if visiting Quito. It demonstrates the rich history of Ecuador ,spanning over centuries . This museum truly gives an amazing insight into the development of Ecuador and the changes over the years as well as the history of the building, it once being a hospital in 1800-1900s. Would recommend visiting the 1500-1700s rooms as it depicts the Spanish colonisation in great detail with artifacts aswell as figurines portraying the Spanish invasion. Furthermore these rooms show how catholism shaped Ecuador into the country...

Very interesting presentation of Quito and Ecuador history from ancient indigenous cultures to Spanish colony to modern times. You could spend 1-2 hours here. The museum is closed on Mondays and during the COVID times it might be closed on Tuesday as well. The cashier told us to wait for an hour for the next guided tour in Spanish or to come another day for a guided tour in English, but we managed to persuade her to let us in without any guide at all. The admission is only $3 or, if you need an English speaking guide, it's $4.
