I had mixed feeling about the hotel from reading the reviews but my genuine opinion it was an excellent choice and Iam glad i did not change it. My room was suite so very spacious with balcony. There was a safe, fridge and microwave. I wish it had a long mirror and instead of microwave it had kettle with cups and tea/coffee. Bathroom had nice shower, water temperature hot and cold, no problem at all. Room daily cleaned. The staff are very helpful and nice! I felt so comfortable and safe being solo traveler. Special thanks to Jimmy! He gave me a detailed tour of the hotel and told me interesting stories about it, the hotel is one of 5 oldest buildings in historic center and was built in 1698 for Spanish aristocrat. Then it was left undone and was restored 1989 where they discovered the prison, the stairs that leads up to the room! Apparently the vase on stairs had bones left inside which is now at the museum but vase still at the hotel! Also there was a chapel discovered which is now a room at the GF.

Lovely hotel with interesting history in a great location The hotel is directly in the pedestrian area downtown. Walk through the main door and you’re in the heart of Quito. The reception is in the atrium that is covered with plants and flooded with sun light. It’s really hard to describe the rooms as everyone seemed to be different (we occupied eight and all were unique). Please note that this is an old building – so the rooms are generally noisier. The breakfast room was once a jail, but more than bread and water are served with the complimentary breakfast. The hotel has a viewing platform on the rooftop. It’s a lot of stairs but worth the effort. Overall: definitely not your run-of-the-mill hotel. If you’re locking for an amazing cultural overnight experience that’s the one. I have git a five star because of the uniqueness and the friendly staff.

Fantastic Hotel in the Historic Centre of Quito and full of character! Built in the late 17th Century originally as a farmhouse and now a multi floored boutique style hotel. It literally was a joy to be in and perfectly positioned for exploring Quito old town which again is a pleasure to walk around. If you ever do find yourself in this beautiful city I recommend you visit the tourist information centre and purchase a ticket for the “hop on hop off” bus that takes you around both the old town and the new town. They leave on the hour all day long and gives you a great overview of the whole city and the driver explains everything in both Spanish and English!

My wife and I wanted to stay in the historic center of the city, so we chose Hotel San Francisco de Quito.|People we know in Quito recommended it as the place to stay in the historic district. And we were ‘not’ disappointed.|You cannot drive up to it as the entrance is on a pedestrian-only street. And the street going by on its side is way too busy to stop, so you need to turn left just before the hotel and park to unload.|Hotel San Francisco de Quito is housed in one of the oldest buildings in the city. And it is walking distance to all of the historic sites in the middle of the city and some of the best restaurants in Quito..|They have done a fantastic job with the décor.|Its covered inner courtyard is a most delightful area to relax and take it all in.|Our room was large with just a few furnishings. It was not fancy by any means. But it was comfortable.|The room had a window to the street. That is nice, but it can get really noisy on that street at night… into the late hours. |Our friend, who traveled with us, had a room facing the inside of the hotel. She told us that she did not hear any of the loud nighttime noise. So, you may want to opt for a room facing the inside of the hotel.|The rooms are upstairs. Literally. There is no elevator, so if an elevator is a “Must,” you should look elsewhere.|Almost everyone at the hotel can speak English. Though our Spanish is limited, it was nice to have them speaking English as a backup.|And the customer service was top notch. Every single person was helpful, and they all had genuine smiles on their faces.|Breakfast is included in the rate. And it is in a really cool part of the hotel that the Spaniards used to use as an underground passageway in Quito.|Eggs were prepared in the way you want them. The only complaint about breakfast was that the coffee is continuously heated, which meant it got burnt after a while.|If we go back to Quito, we will certainly have Hotel San Francisco de Quito as our base...

My husband and I were in Quito for a friend's wedding. We stayed in the Historic District and chose this hotel. We were there for a full week. Our room was "roomy" clean, and very comfortable. Despite the stressed energy grid, placing all Quito businesses into darkness for some of the day or night, this hotel did everything it could to make our stay comfortable. Breakfasts were traditional and ample with fresh ingredients. The staff helped us enormously with translation and helping us with booking other destinations and respected drivers for those excursions. The lobby has real plants, we saw them watered and trimmed. The hotel San Francisco is walking distance (short distance) from the major historic parks and churches. And because there is a metro station a couple blocks away as well as the presidential offices, police are in plain sight keeping an eye on things. That doesn't mean our hotel or surroundings were unsafe, we felt very safe and had not one issue day or evening walking while the streetlights were on. I hope other travelers will get to experience this hotel and the neighborhood. It's nice to be treated...

It was our absolute pleasure for an excellent family stay in this hotel. We just showed up at the doors and the staff were very accommodating to find a perfect room for us. The room was clean and we requested not to use cleaning fluid that smells strong - they followed our instructions. It was great to stay in such a historical building - you get breakfast that is included - in a room that used to be a prison and the architecture is cool. Also filtered drinking water is free. Staff speak Spanish and English. We needed to store our luggage there for a few days while we were away and they did so free of charge. We were very happy with the service and booked to stay with them for additional days when we returned from our trip to the Amazon rainforest. The view from the different levels and rooftop are amazing - you can see a good part of the city - we had our friends over to view this beauty and have coffee with us - which they agreed to provide for a reasonable price. Highly recommend! We will absolutely stay here again whenever we come...
