We stayed at the Pavillion at winter Palace. The best thing about the hotel was that it was very resort-like and a real escape from the bustle and intensity of Luxor. As soon as you passed the security, it was complete peace. A huge garden and pristine pool area. Our room was large, high ceilings and a huge balcony. Although some of the renovation work was a bit shoddy (paint and carpet), the room was nice, spacious, and very clean. All over the grounds, employees were constantly attentive to your needs and asking after your welfare. Pay attention to the hotel note that no employees will approach you outside the grounds. Several tried that tactic to earn our trust, "remember me? I carried your luggage" As soon as you walk past the security, you will be bombarded. To be fair, there are many taxis, carriages, vendors, boats, all trying to get your attention and for you to choose them. They try anything to stand out. Tip: It's best to completely ignore if you don't need their service. Even saying no thank you, keeps their attention on you. Back to hotel. Breakfast is amazing. On our hot air balloon early morning, they fixed a lovely breakfast box. Just request at the front desk. We used laundry service. It was great. Only negatives was the fridge didn't cool quickly, room temp was not as cool as we'd like, and pool closed at sunset. No night swimming, so we didn't get to use it. Otherwise, a fabulous hotel.

The Sofitel Winter Palace - in one, a unique hotel who’s day has passed. World renowned for its part in the rich history of Egypt, it was one of the places I was most excited to visit in Egypt. The gardens are tranquil and beautiful, the interior is prestigious and clearly steeped in history, but all else is a bit rough around the edges sadly and its age is starting the show. I visited in September (off-season) which may have affected my impression. The pool complex was under reconstruction with the water pumped out, and the beautiful gardens have been added to with an unfortunate looking wedding ceremony pavilion area with fake Arabic scenes for what I assume are photo opportunities? On two separate occasions we visited for afternoon tea after our day visits to the pharaonic sites around Luxor. The advertised traditional English ‘high-tea’ for 2075 EGP incl service, is sadly just a shadow of what the interior decor, plaques and pictures hint at. It doesn’t resemble a traditional English high tea at all, and the ‘warm scones’ with cream and jam as advertised on the menu, was a small puck of cold dough and shot glasses of preserves. The attention to detail seems to have slipped both with the execution and service. I hope to return to find the winter palace smartened up to modern standards.

hello. I hope everyone who reads this review takes it seriously. I stayed at this hotel for 3 days, and on the second day, I started to feel really itchy. Of course, I thought it was a mosquito bite, so I endured it. By the third day it was even more itchy so I checked my bed for possible bed bugs. The condition of the bed was truly terrible. I could easily spot signs of bed bugs. I told the hotel manager about the situation and they said it was definitely not a bed bug. They said they would call a doctor and check it out. But the doctor told me it was possible bed bugs. Nevertheless, they kept telling me no. This is truly terrible service mentality. They said it wasn't their fault, but they offered me drinks, a fruit basket, and dinner. I declined and asked for a full refund, but they said they couldn't give it to me. Another day has passed and I am now in Jordan. I went to the hospital again and am receiving treatment. They really only made excuses to me and did not offer any sincere apology to me. I would like to tell you to be careful with your choices.

I knew I was in trouble when checking in that the customer service desk manager told me he had worked there since 200x but was looking for another opportunity. Though a little tired, the building and grounds have a lot of Old world charm. We ate at a couple of the restaurants and the food was reasonably good. However, after eating at Corniche one evening, my wife was violently ill about 45 minutes after we returned to our room. Always hard to tell if it was the food, or something else. We canceled our reservation at their flagship restaurant the following night. The staff there was professional, by clearly going through the motions. Not nearly the amazing experience we had at their sister Sofitel property, The old cataract, in Aswan. That all being said, it is still probably the best high-end place to stay in Luxor. You just need to manage your expectations. Ps though the Nile view rooms are pretty nice, there is a lot of Street noise on that side of the building, so if you prefer a quiet room, your best to get a garden view

THE BEST HOTEL IN EGYPT! Truly I felt wonderful in this palace. The person who made our stay PHENOMENAL is Ms. Esraa! Truly felt like royals when she treated us with special cakes and an amazing room upgrade. The cleanliness, the safety, the friendliness is top notch. If you’re visiting Luxor, make sure that you stay at least a night. They have also a wonderful garden and Nile view that will take your breath away. The food buffet that had the grills was excellent. We loved the flute entertainment, the grills and the friendliness of the staff. I also loved how they’re taking good care of preserving the palace that is over 150 years old! We also loved that at bed time they served us Anise drink, chocolates and eye mask to make our sleeping experience like a royal! So check out the Royal library that has books of King Farouk and rare books. I do hope to return on day again! Many thanks again to Ms. Esraa’s kindness, professionalism and friendliness!

The hotel is historic and oozes of that faded grandeur. The rooms also have high ceilings, which provides an airy atmosphere. The lobby is really impressive and the back garden is an oasis from the noisy streets just outside of the hotel. Despite all this, the rooms in the original building are really dated and the hotel itself could go through a major update, especially if it's billed as a five star property. It's quite obvious the hotel has seen much better days. Of course, one stays here because of the historic connection associated with this hotel. Nonetheless, its location is very well placed. Just beware that the Nile view is lovely but the noise from the street could be a nuisance. Finally, I just wanted to mention that the staff at the front desk and guest relations were absolute service professionals, who made sure guests felt welcomed and valued.
