If you are looking to take beautiful sunset pictures for your Instagram followers, this is your spot in Luxor! To get to the rooftop, your enter through Nefertiti hotel and climb 6 or 7 flights of stairs to be seated at the rooftop for sunset.
However, I’ll explain my two stars rating. If you want good Egyptian food or just good food in general that isn’t overpriced, come here for the sunset and after go to a non touristy place for food.
Our time here as a whole felt rushed and not enjoyable. Every restaurant we’ve gone to in Egypt we’ve spent over an hour at dinner and here it felt like the server and a manger wanted us to order as quickly as possible and leave. They began to move the tables around us and constantly clearing our table and asking if we were done to clear our table for new patrons. I felt uncomfortable with all the stares and constant check ins because every other true Egyptian restaurant we’ve gone to has been a wonderful and welcoming experience. Here it felt like they wanted us to eat and leave because they took reservations for sunset time meals which cost more money so anyone who was seated an hour sunset and was hoping to stay through the whole experience, needed to leave for higher paying patrons.
Now for the food, here’s how I know this is a true tourist catered restaurant. In all other local favorites we went to for Egyptian food, your entree came with four or five appetizers that included spreads and salads, bread, etc. Here, your food came with absolutely nothing and all those apps were individually offered. Secondly how I know this so truly for tourists is the lack of flavor and spice in food. This was our last city and at this point we’ve gone to 5 or 6 amazing Egyptian restaurants so we were used to the amazing taste. Immediately upon even tasting one of the spreads we ordered, I knew the food wouldn’t be good. Our entrees were not spiced, my chicken was over cooked with barely any chicken pieces and mainly tomato sauce. Majority of my husbands camel burger we fed to the sweet stray cat hanging by our table.
Here is what I recommend, the mint and hibiscus teas are unmatched! Come here for your Instagrammable sunset post, order the tea and then leave to have food somewhere else. The prices are higher than we were used to in Egypt and the food was terribly prepared and I say that not to be offensive but I assume it’s by design to draw in tourists as our western food at times is more mildly flavored than other regions...
Read moreI have just had the miserable experience of eating here, largely due to the appalling attitude and rudeness of one waiter.
Although this man saw me waiting to be seated he completely ignored me until the manager insisted the waiter looked after me. I was marched in silence to a table, he pointed and said "there" gruffly, rudely and totally unfriendly. He dumped a menu on the table and walked off. It was over 20 minutes before he returned to take my order. He glared at me, stood poised with pad and pen, but didn't say a word. I asked some questions about the meal I was considering ordering only to receive one word answers. It was blatantly obvious he didn't want to serve me.
After he had taken my order, I had to wait around 25 minutes ish before he dumped the drink on my table without a word. He went off to see to the table of 6 Chinese ladies close by. Three young girls took a table - he was happy to welcome them, smile and make sure they were ok. He took their order promptly.
It was another waiter who brought the meal, probably 40 plus minutes after ordering. I'd ordered the meal which sounded lovely - crisp, layers of buttery filo like pastry stuffed with chicken, some veg, and a tomato and basil sauce as well as 2 cheeses. It was nothing short of appalling - the pastry was stodgy and soggy. The filling was completely flavourless - no tomato or basil as promised in the menu. It was barely lukewarm. I did debate leaving it on the table and walking out without paying because it was so unsatisfactory. However , I didn't, I swallowed the fairly unpleasant mess, then got up paid for what I'd had and left. My guess is the grumpy waiter had deliberately left the meal on the side waiting to get cold and unpleasant.
It's a shame the experience could have been lovely. The manager and the waiter who brought the plate over were absolutely fine. The bald headed, grumpy waiter wrecked the whole experience for me - I have no idea why he behaved as he did, but he made it very clear he didn't want to serve me
The drink, likewise, didn't provide what the menu promised but was at least drinkable.
To be fair they were busy, but that does not excuse the rudeness and exceptionally...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dinning at this restaurant on my last night in Luxor. I went with my travel group of about 15 and our tour guide on a Thursday evening.
The restaurant is located in the street market, better known as El Souk. Our guide arranged for us to dine on the rooftop with the most amazing views!
This restaurant accepts all forms of payment, that includes, credit cards, Egyptian pounds and USD!
The service was a little slow, however, I am going to blame that on our group showing up late. We received our pre-ordered food first. The drinks did not show up until after several in my group were done eating their meal.
The food was amazing! I had the mushroom feteera, a side Greek salad, and a cinnamon and apple cider. The feteera looked and smelled appetizing the moment it hit my table. I must admit that it did not disappoint. I ate every bite! The Greek salad was so fresh. The feta really was the shining star in this dish. The cider, oh how I can’t begin to describe how amazing it taste. I honestly was sipping it slowing to savor the taste longer. The food gets an A+ from me! Several in my group mentioned that this restaurant offered the best meal of our trip to Egypt! The best part- my meal was under $8 USD prior to me leaving a tip!
I must also give credit to the restaurant for helping us to celebrate a birthday in our group. Our guide arranged for a beautiful cake to be brought out for the birthday boy. When I tell you they went above and beyond to make his day special!! The lights were turned out and several staff came out and did a birthday song for the man of the day! Thanks are in order for all who made that happen!
Following dinner, we had the pleasure of meeting the chef. His name is Gbrele Ahmet. It was my pleasure to meet him! He had a great energy and the food he prepared was tasty! Our guide said he is the best chef in Luxor!! If I am not mistaken I do believe he noted that he is also a chef at the e Ritz Carlton in Luxor.
If you have an opportunity to check this spot out, I can assure you that you will not be...
