we enjoyed the El Encanto. I liked being in a small hotel. the garden was lovely and of course being right in town was very convenient. there were however a couple of things I would point out and suggest you look into. some things you have no control over but your guests should be aware. 1.I found the mattresses VERY soft, I felt as if I were sleeping in a hammock. Mattresses are very much personal choice. some people like soft puffy mattresses, they feel they are luxurious, But I don't . I need a firmer mattress. I did not have a single good night's sleep. further more, I found the pillows too big, too round and puffed up. I felt as if my chin was always on my chest. I could not relax and sleep. I need a flatter pillow.
the poolside music will drive anyone insane. it sounds charming... for about 5 minutes. but then it repeats and repeats and repeats. and is insipid elevator music. every day I had to go to reception and as that it be turned off. it was VERY distracting. Please either remove the music or get a better and more varied sound track. It was truly annoying.
there is not much you can do about this but the music from the surrounding bars and restaurants was very loud and kept going until quite late.. It too made sleeping difficult. Chamuyo (I believe it is called) the restaurant immediately next door also has a wood fired BBQ burning all day and night and the smoke and odor infests our garden area. It's not very pleasant. You might want to speak to them about their venilation.
I expect you know this and are aware that the A/C setup in the bedrooms is woefully inefficient and ineffective. Given the layout of the rooms, you are restricted as to where you could place the heads (they have to be along the street wall, which is the bathrooms) but with the A/C on the bathrooms become frigid (as the cold air drops straight in) while the bedroom only gets cool. not much you can do about that I expects.
so, in summary. I did not enjoy. overly soft mattresses (for me), too big pillows, pool music, noise from nearby bars, smoke smell from Chamuyo.

Read moreThe cutest Inn with an authentic Mexican feel. The owner was so friendly and even let us check into our room hours before the check in time. Our room was right next to the pool and beautiful gardens with glass double doors so you could see out and privacy curtains so you couldn't see in. It's a small and private property, we only saw 1 or 2 other guests during our stay. The room was quaint and comfortable but the gardens were definately the highlight here. It felt like staying in our own special little paradise. Lush and well manicured with beautiful palms, flowering trees and bushes. Everywhere you looked there were surprises tucked in such as little statues or hanging glass ornaments. The birds chirping all around were really relaxing to hear and It really felt like the owner put in alot of attention and care for his guests. It is right in the colorful art district where you can walk around and see all kinds of Mexican folk art shops and places to eat. Across the street we went to a charming little outdoor waffle and coffee shop where I had a chorizo waffle with avocado and sunny side up egg on top and my husband had a fresh blueberry and banana waffle with cream cheese glaze. For dinner we went to Jasmines a short walk away. It was a slightly upscale Mexican food restaurant recommended to us. Although it was a nice, it fell flat as far as the food was concerned. My husband enjoyed his chicken enchiladas but the flavor was a little on the bland side. I ordered the beef tamale and it was very soggy and wet with minimal meat inside. The salsa, while made with roasted chilis had no heat at all and not much flavor. The place was colorful and nice, the food was beautifully presented and the waiter was great but it made me wonder if the street food down the road in the village square would have been a better choice. All in all we had a great stay and will definitely stay at Encanto the next time we come to San...
Read moreWe booked out the entire hotel for friends and family during our wedding weekend, and we were quite disappointed by the service. The cleaning ladies were absolutely amazing and so sweet, but beyond that, we were met with no’s and upcharges and a frustrating lack of flexibility.
Initially, when we first stayed in the 2-bedroom suite for a week and talked to her about blocking the entire hotel, service was great. No surprises there. She’s a good salesperson.
As soon as we arrived with all our friends and family, it was poor service left and right. She charged us $5 USD per room to add welcome gifts for our guests. She enforced a very strict cancelation policy, even though we had far exceeded the minimum nights they required for the room block and many guests continued to book additional nights, even while we were there. She initially said we could fit 4 people per room with 2 beds, and only later clarified that would increase the cost. When we asked her to please be a bit more understanding given how much revenue we had brought into the hotel, she reminded us of how generous they had been to allow us to use their chapel patio for a 45-minute workout class for free. Obviously, the patio was not even in use.
The service at Drift around the corner was incredibly kind and reliable. We really try to support Mexican-owned businesses, especially in a place so overrun by non-Mexican tourism. But the only thing that would bring us back to Encanto would be the opportunity to visit the amazing...
