We absolutely love Jardin Secreto. The band, ambience and food are amazing. That being said, we went last night and almost had a disaster on our hands. Upon arrival, the hostess asked for allergies. I’m allergic to nuts and some other weird stuff. She assured me that she would pass along to wait staff. Our waitress also asked allergies.
Apps arrive - charcuterie board covered in pecans. I kindly reminded her of my allergies, she apologized and asked her to make sure there were no nuts in my food.
Our entrees arrived and there are pistachios on my meal - I didn’t see them so I took a bite and immediately had a mild reaction. When she finally came back to check on us, I told her about the pistachios and she said, yes they are pistachios not nuts. Again, I was kind about reminding her and eventually they replaced the dish.
I forgot my allergy medicine so my husband left dinner to hit up a local pharmacy so the reaction could calm down.
In the mean time, I ordered a skinny margarita and received a regular heavy sugar margarita. I felt terrible about sending it back but after about 15 min when she returned to check on the table I let her know. Got a replacement 10 min later.
The bill arrived and we were charged for all our items (no biggie ) but informed the manager of the nut allergy and how dangerous it can be to other guests if notes aren’t communicated to the chef. He said he’d look into it.
Again, we love this place but if you have any allergies, be sure to inspect your good thoroughly before eating to avoid a potentially life...

Dinner was early on Tuesday April 04th. The restaurant was quiet, perhaps 7 tables at best and we were one of the first tables to order as we arrived at 5:30pm. Can’t blame this experience on “it was a busy night”. I read several reviews since on trip advisor and many patrons have experienced similar issues with their food being cold etc.
It's sad that I am writing a poor review but when 3 out of 4 meals go horribly wrong I feel like it's the right thing to do. The restaurant is a beautiful setting and is really the allure that kept us coming back. My wife and I winter in San Jose so we have had the pleasure of meeting many of the staff and for the most part they have been fantastic. The food however is a different story. I ordered my steak Medium well and I received it rare not once but twice! My wife and and mother purchased the shrimp Chardonnay and they were luke warm AND the side of sweet potato showed up cold... actually cold to the touch! Every part of the meal was either cold, over cooked, or poorly prepared. Needless to say when my steak finally arrived cooked, it was bland and of course I ate alone! The tipping point was nothing was said or done to correct the multiple errors and the bill was full price. We paid, left and we will NEVER return! So many great places to eat in San Jose and THIS IS ONE TO STAY AWAY FROM! Too bad because we really like most...
Read moreIt's a really beautiful and lovely place, but sadly, we got scammed by the bartender. My advice is to make sure you double-check that the bartender gives you exactly what you ordered and that you're only paying for the things you actually asked for.
To provide some additional context, let me elaborate on the situation. We initially ordered cocktails (e.g. 3x 280 pesos margars ish cocktails). The bartenders surprised us by offering tequila samples and inquiring about our preferred drink choice. We responded we would like the regular tequila typically used in that particular cocktail. At that moment, the bartender pointed to one of the glasses she had used for the samples, asking if that choice was acceptable to us. Naturally, we agreed since we were unaware of which tequila was considered the "regular" one.
When the time came to settle the bill, we were astounded to discover that we had been charged over 1,800 pesos for three tequilas, along with an additional fee for chasers/sodas, as well as 240 pesos for mixing and preparing the drinks. All of these charges amounted to a sum significantly exceeding the expected 280 pesos per drink. It was a perplexing and frustrating situation, leaving us feeling deceived and defrauded. Therefore, it is evident that this was not a simple matter of placing blame; rather, it was a clear instance of deceptive and fraudulent...
