A very beautiful botanical garden that has an ample variety of trees, plants and flowers indoors and outdoors. Located in the centre of Helsinki, a walking distance e.g. from the railway station. Free entrance. Owned by the city of Helsinki. Toilets and a tiny cafeteria (check the opening hours for the cafe, not necessarily the same as the garden's.) The plants originate from near and far. Rose garden is in the outdoor and although somewhat small compared to bigger cities, it has it charm and classic layout with several rose species. Indoor wintergarden (talvipuutarha in Finnish) is where the whole place got it name. It contains vegetation exhibition in three rooms; palm room, cactus room and western wing that contains various houweplants of old times. We enjoyed it very much and our friends, who are quite plant knowledgeable, were very impressed with the selection and quality of the plants. I was told that only a very well cared for jade plant will bloom and the jade plants here had very beautiful blooms on display. Definitely recommend, especially seeing it is free.
