As a child me and my friends used to do small adventure trips to Hietaniemi Cemetery, or walk through it when we went to Hietaniemi Beach. It was interesting to return there after so many years, now as a tourist.

Hietaniemi Cemetery is a very beautiful place to walk around. Many famous Finnish artists and some presidents of Finland are buried there. I think, for many visitors of Hietaniemi Cemetery, it is some kind of culture trip, looking for tombs of well-known people.

It was hot summer day when we visited the cemetery, and even though there were quite many people, many of them tourists like us, the cemetery was so peaceful and pacifying place to spend some time. Hietaniemi Cemetery is suitable for a bit different...

Paikka on kaunis kaikkina vuodenaikoina. Vanhojen mäntyjen ja koivujen varjossa kulkevat hiekkakäytävät johtavat eri aikakausien hautarivien äärelle. Jokainen hauta tuntuu kantavan tarinaa – siellä lepäävät niin presidentit, runoilijat, taiteilijat, sotilaat, merimiehet kuin tavalliset suomalaiset, jotka omalla työllään rakensivat isänmaata.

Hietaniemi vaatii kävijältään kunnioitusta ja pysähtymistä. Erityisesti sankarihaudoilla mieli vakavoituu.

Arvosana: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Kansallinen pyhä paikka, jossa Suomen vapauden hinta...

"Ancient " cemetery park, calming walk is garanteed! Pros: Most of the Finnish selebrities and " big wings" are buried here. Wondeful location - city centure , close to sea and a park Cons The gravestones of the presidents ( Koivisto, Mr. Kekkonen, etc.) do not have flower beds. If the families for some reason cannot organize them, maybe the city of Helsinki could take on this wonderful responsibility?
