This was a disaster. I had previously seen some gorgeous looking photos of their gourmet pizzas, so I really wanted to try it out as they looked like art pieces and so delicious. They didn't have those photos anymore and apparently the restaurant had moved to the space nextdoor from where it used to be. I ordered the Alba as I like new innovations and different kind of pizzas. I also love truffle and this one had truffle sauce, burrata, cherry tomatoes, tomato sauce and mortadella (some Italian special sausage). First of all when the guy came to take our order he didnt make any contact with us and was just on his ipad trying to do something. After a while he just left without saying anything. Already then I got a weird vibe. Eventually he came back to take the order and I ordered the pizza and my friend ordered a drink. I wanted to order some wine and asked if I can taste some. The guy talked and talked about the wines without making any sense. He tried to present himself as an expert but I didn't understand a word. All the 3 wines I tried were really bad and tasted the same. It took so long and I just wanted to get a drink and return to the table with my friend. Then I saw they have prosecco on the menu and said that I usually like prosecco, so maybe that. The guy just poured a glass without letting me taste first and I took it and went to the table. When I had my first sip, it was awful. And tasted just like the previous ones: too watery, too bitter, too dry. No body at all. I took it back and asked for a moscow mule instead. I thought that's pretty hard to mess up. The pizza came first and the drink took a while. When the drink arrived, it was again tastless and just bad. And so was the pizza unfortunately. The pizza that cost 27e. The truffle didnt taste much. The tomato sauce didn't work with the truffle. The special mortadella was like some basic Snellman ham from Alepa. It was not good. No taste. Even the tomatoes didnt taste like anything! And of course nobody came to check if everything was okay. There was also a young girl as a waitress. When we had been finished for a while and waiting to ask for the Bill, the girl was just drawing on the board and the guy was nowhere to be seen. It was like we had been forgotten. So I went up to the counter and asked for the bill and the girl brought it. When she asked how it was I couldn’t lie. She went to get her boss, the Italian guy. The guy couldn’t take any critisism. He explained how he has been doing pizza for years and nobody's ever complained. And that he knows his pizza and wine, and everything is straight from Italy or something. Then he made me feel guilty that I didn't say that something was wrong with the pizza. He would have made it better. Honestly, it's their job to check if the customers are okay. I didn't have the energy to continue the conversation because the guy just didn't give up. Too much for his ego, it seemed. At least I didn't have to pay for the pizza or the prosecco. I do not recommend the place at all. Save your money and energy, and go...
Read moreHands down, the best pizza north of the Alps. Well, at least in Helsinki!
Pizzeria da Chicco was a delightful discovery on our trip to Helsinki. I was hungry for a pizza, but was pleasantly surprised that there was other foods on the menu such as salads, lasagna and pasta, as well. Our pizzas were (.1) "Frutti di Mare" and that was the best I've ever had. My wife ordered another house speciality called "Valtellinese" which was garnished with bresaola, burrata cheese, cherry tomatoes, rucola and truffle sauce.
In addition to the great food, the wines, beers, grappa, etc. in this restaurant are something special and the very best in quality. They are carefully chosen by the chef/owner and specially imported.
The homemade tiramisu took my tongue away. And I don't say that lightly. I think I have had my share of special desserts and and this one was delightful, delicate in flavor, great in texture. Probably the best I ever had.
As a final note, the service was prompt, gentle...
Read morePizza was okay, but the one I ordered came with different toppings than what was listed on the menu both online and on the counter. Apparently the toppingd had been changed but they had not updated all the menus. Alba pizza was meant to have roasted ham but came now with uncooked mortadella. I would not have chosen this pizza. Also another thing was that the hand hygiene of the staff was poor. The staff member serving us would use the card machine that also customers use for payment and then go directly back to cooking without washing his hands. Therefore all the germs etc. from customers who have used the card machine, would directly transfer into the food. Especially unappetising when there are lots of fresh toppings on the pizzas that do not go into the oven. Won’t de going back as I feel quite disgusted by this. I am worried I will get a stomach bug from eating here. Very upset as this is our local pizza place and really...
