When in Helsinki… ⤵️ 📌 for your trip! 🇫🇮 My 48 hours in Helsinki were wet and windy but these are the gems I fit into a quick visit: ▪️Cafe Regatta @caferegatta, the cutest waterside cafe. Order inside (may I recommend a cinnamon bun?) and go sit by the outdoor fire pit - it’s super cozy. ▪️Sibelius Monument - just down the road from Cafe Regatta, this monument put up in the 60s has 600+ steel pipes that form a wave-like shape representing music 🎶 ▪️KotKotChicken @kotkotchicken - Kot hatched from a popup during the first lockdown of 2020 and was created by a Michelin awarded chef. They mainly serve chicken burgers and they are delish! ▪️Thai Orchid Kamppi @thaiorchidkamppi -(Don’t let its mall location put you off 😂 - the food was great!) ▪️Oodi Central Library @oodihelsinki - a stunning library with cafe and outdoor terrace. Also check out the National Library which I unfortunately missed! ▪️Helsinki Cathedral - it’s an icon of the city and probably the most recognizable landmark in Finland. ▪️The Natural History Museum. Beautiful architecture and good for a wander. Their Instagram handle is also the longest thing I’ve ever seen: @luonnontieteellinenkeskusmuseo A few other helpful tips: 🏨 Stayed at @hotelmestari ⛴️ You can take a 2-hour ferry (that feels like a freakin’ cruise ship) from Helsinki to Tallinn for only €34. Have you been to the happiest country in the world? 🙃 . . . . . #helsinki #finland #visithelsinki #myhelsinki #europetravel #visitfinland

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Finnish Museum of Natural History, and I must say it was an absolute delight. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was captivated by the rich natural wonders that awaited me. Located in the heart of Helsinki, the museum is incredibly easy to reach, making it a convenient destination for both locals and tourists. The museum's collection is nothing short of awe-inspiring. It covers a vast range of topics, from geology and botany to zoology and paleontology. Every corner I turned revealed a new treasure, beautifully curated and displayed with detailed descriptions and fascinating stories. Whether you have a deep interest in the natural world or are simply looking for an educational and entertaining experience, this museum has something for everyone. One of the standout features of the Finnish Museum of Natural History is its appeal to children. The exhibits are designed to be engaging and interactive, ensuring that young visitors have a memorable and educational experience. The museum offers various hands-on activities, such as touch tables and multimedia presentations, allowing kids to explore and learn in a fun and exciting way. Additionally, the staff members are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and provide guidance. I found myself completely absorbed in the exhibits, losing track of time as I delved into the captivating world of nature. With such a diverse and extensive collection, it's easy to spend several hours exploring the museum. I would recommend allocating at least 3-4 hours for your visit to fully appreciate all the exhibits and take advantage of the interactive features. In addition to the impressive displays, the museum also offers educational programs and temporary exhibitions that add further depth and variety to the visitor experience. These programs cater to different interests and age groups, ensuring that each visit can be a unique and enriching experience. Overall, the Finnish Museum of Natural History is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the natural world. With its easy accessibility, captivating collection, and focus on providing an engaging experience for children, it is a true gem in the heart of Helsinki. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a curious learner, or a parent looking for an educational outing, this museum offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the nature

We had a really enjoyable time at the Natural History Museum in Bern — it honestly felt like walking through a zoo, except the animals didn’t move! The life-sized dioramas of animals in their natural habitats were incredibly well done, with realistic poses and environmental details like birds in flight or a tiger mid-hunt. It was immersive and impressive.

A standout experience was the preserved animal specimens in jars inside a temperature-controlled lab-like room. There were also interactive exhibits explaining DNA preservation — a cool scientific touch. We especially enjoyed the section where we could touch real animal skins and leathers. The staff member there was friendly and engaging — sadly, the only one who seemed to care. Another staff member we asked about the dinosaur section had no idea what was in the museum, which was frustrating and unhelpful.

Unfortunately, we were excited to see the dinosaur exhibition, but it was either closed or we completely missed it. That was a major letdown (which was the reason for 4 stars), and the lack of English descriptions throughout the museum didn’t help either. Only the Barry the rescue dog section had full English support.

Still, the sheer variety of animals — from insects to elephants — and the overall quality of the exhibits make this a must-see in Bern. Just don’t confuse it with the other nearby "history museum," which was painfully dull in comparison. Give me animals over Einstein's...

The Natural History Museum in Helsinki is an engaging and well-curated space spread across three floors, offering a journey through nature, science, and deep history. At the ground floor an elephant greets you in. The second floor is particularly impressive, with its detailed and beautifully presented displays of Finland’s diverse species — a fascinating way to understand the country’s wildlife in a single visit.

The third floor is where the real excitement begins, especially for younger visitors. The prehistoric exhibition is brought to life with its star attractions: the dinosaurs. These displays are both educational and spectacular, making them a highlight of the museum and a guaranteed favorite for families with children.

Overall, the museum strikes a fine balance between learning and fun, making it an excellent destination for families, tourists, and anyone with a curiosity for the natural world. The only real downside is the souvenir shop, which could benefit from a wider selection of items tied directly to the exhibitions — especially prehistoric-themed gifts, which would be a natural hit. Also it would be nice if the entrance in the museum could be included in the Helsinki Card among the...
