When in Helsinki… ⤵️ 📌 for your trip! 🇫🇮 My 48 hours in Helsinki were wet and windy but these are the gems I fit into a quick visit: ▪️Cafe Regatta @caferegatta, the cutest waterside cafe. Order inside (may I recommend a cinnamon bun?) and go sit by the outdoor fire pit - it’s super cozy. ▪️Sibelius Monument - just down the road from Cafe Regatta, this monument put up in the 60s has 600+ steel pipes that form a wave-like shape representing music 🎶 ▪️KotKotChicken @kotkotchicken - Kot hatched from a popup during the first lockdown of 2020 and was created by a Michelin awarded chef. They mainly serve chicken burgers and they are delish! ▪️Thai Orchid Kamppi @thaiorchidkamppi -(Don’t let its mall location put you off 😂 - the food was great!) ▪️Oodi Central Library @oodihelsinki - a stunning library with cafe and outdoor terrace. Also check out the National Library which I unfortunately missed! ▪️Helsinki Cathedral - it’s an icon of the city and probably the most recognizable landmark in Finland. ▪️The Natural History Museum. Beautiful architecture and good for a wander. Their Instagram handle is also the longest thing I’ve ever seen: @luonnontieteellinenkeskusmuseo A few other helpful tips: 🏨 Stayed at @hotelmestari ⛴️ You can take a 2-hour ferry (that feels like a freakin’ cruise ship) from Helsinki to Tallinn for only €34. Have you been to the happiest country in the world? 🙃 . . . . . #helsinki #finland #visithelsinki #myhelsinki #europetravel #visitfinland

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Finnish Museum of Natural History, and I must say it was an absolute delight. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was captivated by the rich natural wonders that awaited me. Located in the heart of Helsinki, the museum is incredibly easy to reach, making it a convenient destination for both locals and tourists. The museum's collection is nothing short of awe-inspiring. It covers a vast range of topics, from geology and botany to zoology and paleontology. Every corner I turned revealed a new treasure, beautifully curated and displayed with detailed descriptions and fascinating stories. Whether you have a deep interest in the natural world or are simply looking for an educational and entertaining experience, this museum has something for everyone. One of the standout features of the Finnish Museum of Natural History is its appeal to children. The exhibits are designed to be engaging and interactive, ensuring that young visitors have a memorable and educational experience. The museum offers various hands-on activities, such as touch tables and multimedia presentations, allowing kids to explore and learn in a fun and exciting way. Additionally, the staff members are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and provide guidance. I found myself completely absorbed in the exhibits, losing track of time as I delved into the captivating world of nature. With such a diverse and extensive collection, it's easy to spend several hours exploring the museum. I would recommend allocating at least 3-4 hours for your visit to fully appreciate all the exhibits and take advantage of the interactive features. In addition to the impressive displays, the museum also offers educational programs and temporary exhibitions that add further depth and variety to the visitor experience. These programs cater to different interests and age groups, ensuring that each visit can be a unique and enriching experience. Overall, the Finnish Museum of Natural History is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the natural world. With its easy accessibility, captivating collection, and focus on providing an engaging experience for children, it is a true gem in the heart of Helsinki. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a curious learner, or a parent looking for an educational outing, this museum offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the nature

As we got our museokortti (museum card) a couple of days ago, we decided to make use of it and visit the Natural History Museum. The adult ticket usually costs 17€. I must say, 2,5 h was not enough for us to see all the halls. The museum closes quite early most days, at 5pm. Today it closed at 4pm. Before you start your visit, you can, using a QR code, go to a page with audio guides in English, French and Russian. They are not comprehensive, but will give you a general idea about the expositions. There were children, who seemed to enjoy seeing different animals, so families with children might like to pay a visit to this museum. There will be an "Antarctic" exhibition starting on 15.9.2021, another reason to visit. Sunday, 22.8.2021

One of the best I have been to. What sets this apart is how engaging and kid friendly this is. It's really compact but full of impeccable specimens. I'm glad I didn't skip this museum. Word of caution - according to the museum "Venomous spiders in the museum The Chilean recluse spider, that grows up to a few centimeters. It arrived in our country inside a fruit cargo. The species is not aggressive at all despite its toxicity. It moves in the dark and is sensitive to light in addition to sounds on the floor. It lives in hidden and undisturbed spaces and does not show up very much. Museum staff has lived in harmony with the venomous spider in the same building for decades."

Good quality history musuem to learn about how the world is what it is today. Some explanations are only available in Finnish and Swedish only, some others have English too. Free audio guide to hear from your own phone? University run place, and lacking of service, but the staff/volunteers aren't don't it to provide service to others. 4 floors, with main exhibitions on three floors. Child friendly activities. Suggest to reserve between 2-4h depending, just to see it all. Some new insights from other view points, and links to university researchers for their suggestions of the history. some follow up would be good. Lift is very slow, even between floors.
