Wonderful tour, well narrated but DO NOT BUY THE WINES TO BE SHIPPED! We were there in 2014 and tasted the 2009 and 2010 white and red Premier Cru's which are made in a more "new world" style (mature earlier) and bought a case to be sent back to the states. They were shipped and I have kept them in a very good wine cellar that keeps wines at 50 to 58 degrees F. I recently( May/2019) opened one of the reds and was extremely disappointed. It was extremely thin with very little in the way of a nose, and lacking any body or taste at all. The wine was not vinegary so it not gone bad but was worst than any "2 buck chuck" my father-in-law- gets at a Trader Joe's. 2009 was considered an excellent vintage so by process of elimination it was either a fault with the shipper, the importer (hopefully no fraud was involved)or possibly the wines are just not made to be drunk after 5 years of the vintage. We also bought some Premier Cru 2010s from Chateau de Meursault as well as some Premier Cru 2009s from some Cote de Nuits producers so those might give us a clearer picture. A 9 year old bottle of supposedly Premier Cru level burgundy should be better than this! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. ---On the other hand I highly recommend a visit to a little wine shop in Beaune called Mon Millesime, for a vintage tasting, to find out how fabulous older(35-15 years) Burgundys (both red and white ) can...
Read moreI visited the Chateau de Meursault last week. I had heard so many wonderful things from my brother who had visited it years ago. I was excited to discover it and show it to our guests visiting Burgundy for the first time. Sadly, I was extremely disappointed with the tour. For one, the Chateau was under renovation which I never saw highlighted on the website. It was listed but not in obvious print. Secondly, due to the renovation, the cellar tour was extremely short. 15 minutes out of 1 1/2 tour. We saw almost nothing of the cellar which honestly is the most impressive part to see. The rest was wine tasting. Third, we accidentally booked our 13-person tour in French instead of English. They did nothing to accommodate us. They said it was how it was booked. So the tour was in French and my guests did not understand any of it. I honestly think they could have made the efforts to do the tour in two languages or offer some type of accommodation. Not once did they try to provide some information in English. Yes, we made the mistake of booking it in French but honestly, our email confirmation was in English, and our billing address was in the US. That should somehow tell them we were looking for an English speaking tour. Some accommodation should have been done. Not the best...
Read moreVisited in May 2019. We were in the Beaune area for a few days and dropped by. The Chateau and grounds are simply magnificent, and a self-guided stroll around the property, brook, stone walls, 1757 Ceder tree (CEDRE du LIBAN), wall of roses, vineyards and surroundings was precious. Inside we met several hosts who were very educated, informative, friendly, and took the time to answer all of our questions. They allowed us to sample several wines and educate us about the particular fields and soil where the grapes were grown and regional wine map. The cellars were the real deal. Great variety and price points for the wines. Although we had not planned to purchase wines, we ended up shipping 6 bottles back home, and purchased a few to take with us and enjoy. What a truly unexpected and delightful experience. This was one of our highlights in the Beaune, and not even a planned trip. We had a rental car which gave us the opportunity to leisurely explore the area, and this was a gem. Walk the property, talk to the hosts, explore the Chateau, and try some wines. What the joie de vivre is all about. Thank you to everyone at the Chateau the Meursault. Very enjoyable and highly...
