The fort is quite nice. Unfortunately, you can only enter it as a part of a guided tour and the tour times are only posted inside the fort instead of outside before you walk all the way up there. When we arrived at the fort we found out that the next guided tour was in 90 minutes only. It would be great to have this information in advance so one could actually plan one's way up there to get there when a tour is about to start.

Amazing old Fort in Antibes. Brilliant tour guide, very informative, learnt a lot from him. Lots of walking, plenty of steps, not for the faint hearted. Brilliant views in beautiful surroundings. Just one earth toilet, it is signposted, water fountain nearby, but take bacterial cleansing gel or wipes for hygiene. Wooded area surrounding the Fort offers shade, but very exposed once at the Fort.

If you like fortifications as much as me then this is the place for you. The fort originates from the 16th century, and was built on the heights above the harbour of Antibes by way of protection. Vauban redesigned the whole structure later in the 17th century, so that the fort is now a perfect example of defence against artillery, with its star-shaped design, bastions and ramparts

We had the accomodation 3.5 km away, but decided one morning to walk to the Fort Carré and it was definitely a great idea. The entrance fee is just 3 or 4 euros, there is also a guided tour included in this small price. For safety reasons, the upper part of the Fort can be visited only with the guide, in small groups. But totally worth it! I highly recommend this place!

Worth a visit if only for the nice views over Antibes and its port, and the French Riviera toward Nice. Double-check the opening hours as they have changed (temporary?). Our tour was in French only and lasted 30 minutes. It's not possible to visit without a tour. Save some money and buy the museum pass which includes Picasso, Archeological and Peynet.

Very interesting and good looking historical site from 16th century. The tour around the fort is 3e per person and starts every 30 minutes. Note that you cannot explore it by yourself. I've also noticed that the signs that lead to a fort offer the longest route, so check your map if you don't want to have a long walk.
