Le Vieux Marché — Attraction in Le Havre

NEVER, when in France, eat in a touristy area. But against my better judgement I did. They know it's only tourist who go there and there is hardly any returning customers. Out of laziness I betrayed this rule and got burned. The food was unpalatable. I have a seafood pizza were the seafood tasted like out of the freezer and the dough definitely was. My girlfriend had chicken which wasn't seasoned at all, it came with fries, which were cold and some sort of a white sauce with an indistinguishable flavour. It would have been barrable if it would have been reasonably priced. But 17€ for a gross Pizza, 15€ for bad chicken breast and 10€ for a large beer is daylight robbery. At least the service was good. But not asking who the food was is after returning half full plates...

Le Vieux Marché d’Étretat, également appelé les Halles, est un bâtiment emblématique situé en plein centre-ville, sur la place Maréchal Foch. Construit en 1927 par l’architecte Émile Mauge, il a été réalisé par les Compagnons de la Manche à partir de bois ancien, récupéré sur des maisons détruites dans l’Eure. Ce bâtiment s’inspire de l’architecture normande traditionnelle, avec une grande charpente apparente et un petit clocher qui lui donne un charme authentique. Avant sa construction, l’endroit accueillait une mare et un canal pour l’écoulement des eaux. Ceux-ci ont été comblés au XIXe siècle pour laisser place à un marché en plein air, remplacé ensuite par le bâtiment actuel. Aujourd’hui, le Vieux Marché n’abrite plus de produits frais, mais principalement des boutiques de souvenirs et d’artisanat local. Malgré cela, un marché hebdomadaire avec produits frais se tient chaque jeudi matin sur la place. Très populaire auprès des touristes, le lieu séduit par son architecture pittoresque, même si certains regrettent son aspect trop commercial. Its a very nice place, I guess it is worth visiting it to buy some souvenirs and get to know a little more of the city and its history. Isn´t to big and can be crowded sometimes.
