Absolutely the best and biggest Resistance museum I have ever visited. Just 2 minutes from the Cathedral and old town. There are outstanding maps, images, objects, and propaganda posters very carefully curated to show different periods of France at War. The comments in the reviews are true there is a lot in dense French text here. And the audio narrative in English is weak. However there is enough information, and incredible images, well themed to take you through the different phases and regional political forces and groups through the war. The relentless propaganda under occupation is striking. The images of sabotage, capture, transport, imprisonment, and liberation very powerful. It brings home the day to day of life in Vichy France. No person, no community, no area of France was unaffected. Limoges itself was liberated by the FFI not the Allies. Other local towns were liberated by the Maquis. I could have spent much longer here and I will certainly try...
Read moreThis is an informative museum hidden on a side street. I fully expected to see more people during our visit, but that was their loss, not ours. As non French speakers, the audio guides were invaluable, as was Google translate, and the layout of the museum talked you through the chronology of the war and resistance, and how this impacted Limoges directly. I could have happily spent more time here, as there is a lot to see and absorb. The more sensitive subjects of death camps, persecution etc are dealt with well and you are presented with clear yet poignant information. Definitely would visit again if...
Read moreVery interesting museum which tells the story of the occupation of France during the Second World War. The museum specialises in the history of the resistance activity in France during the occupation and talks about many aspects of this. They focus also on local history during the war which is a topic I was not aware of. They have a mixture of information formats including exhibits/video/audio. If you don't speak French I advise that you pay an extra 2 Euro for the...
