Great spot to relax and take in wonderful views of the city. A really authentic feel with plenty of seating in the shade and then there is the amazing arch de triumph - the gardens are fine and the walk up from the town an interesting 10-15 mins stroll away from the tourist crowds (and wasps!) Quite surprisingly very few tourists seem to walk this far, at least on each visit that we made. Depending on the day and time of arrival there are some great opportunities for fantastic photo shots as the sunlight changes through the course of the day.

If you’re in Montpellier, France, a visit to Promenade du Peyrou is an absolute must! This place exudes a unique blend of historical charm and serene beauty, making it an ideal spot to unwind and soak in the city’s rich heritage.

Situated atop a gently sloping hill, the view from Promenade du Peyrou is simply breathtaking. The iconic Arc de Triomphe, framed by the lush greenery and the clear blue sky, creates a picture-perfect backdrop for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful afternoon picnic.

As you walk along the promenade’s tree-lined paths, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the beauty of well-manicured gardens and fountains. The sense of tranquility and peace that pervades this place is truly invigorating.

Promenade du Peyrou is also steeped in history, which adds an extra layer of fascination to the experience. The imposing 17th-century Château d’Eau, formerly used to bring fresh water to the city, stands proudly at the end of the promenade, serving as a reminder of Montpellier’s architectural heritage.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a quiet escape from the bustling city life, Promenade du Peyrou offers something for everyone. I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll here during the golden hours, when the sun casts a warm glow over the surroundings, creating an enchanting atmosphere.

Overall, I can’t recommend Promenade du Peyrou enough. It’s a hidden gem in Montpellier that captivates visitors with its old-world charm and scenic allure. Don’t miss out on this delightful experience during your visit to Montpellier. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and with fond...

Beautiful park with a wide view on Montpellier, Gambetta and Le Pic Saint-Loup (the nearest mountain peak). As for what to do there a lots of places to sit on the grass and get a picnic or a drink to settle. Students often go there to gather, you can always enjoy some music playing. Artful light lamps, and a view on the arc de triumph, front there count 5 minutes within the city center. In the middle, a statue of King Louis XIV, the sun king. On the other side, you can find the Belvedere that holds a water tank, built in 1753. From that side you have an overview of the bridge, known as Les Arceaux. A shame that you cannot go further on it as it is closed from the public. If you take the stairs, there are further fountains and gardens to visit, usually less crowded you can enjoy more privacy. If you continue further, you can stride along les Arceaux and during the right hours, you can visit the food market. Although a hint of warning that around the curfew, police come down to close the park so be wary to be on your way as they...
