La Coquille — Restaurant in Montpellier

Apart from its location, this place has little going for it. The young staff are friendly but the older staff are very brusque and impatient, and you can see that behavior rubbing off on some of the younger staff.

As to the food, there’s a limited menu with, when we visited at 13:15 on a Tuesday, about one third of it unavailable. We ordered the only remaining daily special, carpaccio with salad and frites. The frites were ok, perhaps nearly as good as McDonalds version. The salad consisted of 3 sprigs of mache with dressing: any normal restaurant would regard this as a garnish, not a salad. The carpaccio was smothered in pesto (from a jar?) but was otherwise ok.

The carpaccio was €18 but a bottle of Perrier was a staggering €7 - not priced on any menu so clearly intended to be a major profit grab.

Very much overhyped in the reviews. The Caesar Salad looks like something from McDonald's with a lot of excess sauce on it as well as breaded chicken that's completely unpleasant in what should be a light dish. I'd asked for the burger but was told that it was out, only to then see two guys who sat down 20 minutes after me get the burger. I felt like because of my foreign accent in French I was being upsold as I ended up ordering then having to order the entrecôte which was 50% more expensive. It was also overcooked despite requesting 'à point' and despite saying it was '300 grams', it looked considerably smaller. I wanted to have dinner at this place a couple of weeks ago but since I was alone and had to go to the bathroom, I wanted to do that first thing. An older lady that seemed to be the owner apparently thought I only wanted to use the restroom so she was running after me, almost yelling at me „You need to order, what do you want to order“ before AND after I used the restroom, while I was looking for a table. It seemed so rude and unwelcoming that I decided to only have a drink there and have dinner somewhere else. The younger staff was nice, the drink was overpriced. Cannot...
