Mercure Nantes Centre - Grand Hôtel — Attraction in Nantes

Unfortunately not a recommended hotel. Although the location in Nantes is central and good, the price and performance did not go together at all. My room was next to the elevator shaft, the bed was directly against a wall behind the elevators, so that loud, sometimes squeaking noises and vibrations penetrated the room with every elevator ride. When I asked the front desk to change to another room, I got the answer that they were fully booked and that I should come back another day. This is absolutely unacceptable and unbelievable for a hotel of this category. In my opinion, the rooms next to the elevator shaft are not acceptable for guests without proper insulation. The staff feigned surprise at the fact that there was elevator noise, but by looking at other reviews the problem is more than known. They just seem to ignore it for the long term. I should have read it earlier. In general, the rooms are very badly soundproofed, you can also hear various other noises. There is no rest here. Furthermore, the bathroom is very narrow and impractical. The fridge didn't work. All in all very disappointing. Unfortunately, the breakfast offer also proves the low status of breakfast in France. First of all, the breakfast room is way too small and cramped for the size of the hotel, very uncomfortable. The range of food is more than patchy for a breakfast of this price. The buffet is chaotic, unloving and sometimes repulsive. It doesn't look very hygienic. The staff is awkward. The only bright spot was the high quality tea selection. Conclusion: Don't come here - one of the worst value for money...

We had a fabulous few days visiting Nantes and setting at this hotel. It is perfectly located to explore all parts of the city, surrounded by landmarks, historical sites, shops and plenty of great restaurants and amazing bakeries and ice cream shops! We walked absolutely everywhere, it’s an extremely walkable city and the hotel is at the centre of it. The hotel is surrounded by pedestrian streets and squares. ||We had a classic room which we found very very comfortable. I loved being able to open the windows, for me this is always a big plus when staying in hotels. The room had a little cooler fridge which really enhanced our seat and basic tea (herbal) and coffee. The bathroom and toilet were separate which was great, shower had good pressure and was hot! The only thing to note in this room type is that there is no body lotion or hair conditioner so bring your own if you need these. The mattress was very comfortable although I did struggle with the pillows - too soft for me but this is personal preference! Being city centre you will obviously get street noise especially at night with hotel the being close to such great facilities! ||We had dinner and breakfast once in the hotel! Dinner was very enjoyable and the local cider delicious. Breakfast is excellent with some great local choices which is always great to see,and some lovely tea options from a local tea shop! ||Every staff member we encountered was so friendly and helpful, a special mention to David, Valentine and Camille, who helped make our stay so enjoyable! We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. I have read a lot of reviews about the difficulty in accessing this hotel. I decided to write a review mainly to reassure you that there is really no problem in arriving at the hotel and car park. You will receive / you can request directions to the hotel/ parking. The directions are straightforward. If your are coming from Brittany your enter '6 rue de L'Arche Seche ' into your GPS. When your reach this point your will meet a barrier and the hotel will give you a code to raise this and allow you to continue. Once you enter the semi-pedestrian zone, take the first left into' Rue Commandant Boulay'. then immediately right into Rue du Couedic. You will meet an intersection or crossroad called Rue D'Orleans. Cross this and continue along Rue du Couedic. About 200 metres you will see part of the Mercure hotel on your left . Take the first left in front of the restaurent 'l'Entrecote' into Rue Sainte Catherine. The main entrance of the hotel and parking are on this street. Drop your bags off at the hotel and head to the parking 30 metres nearby. |I think the main reason people get lost is they turn left at Rue D'Orleans instead of going ahead.
