Since we arrived on a Sunday we decided to act on the reviews which said this House opens on a Sunday and doesn’t require pre -bookings. Sure enough we spotted a sign in English telling us we were welcome to visit and that we’d find the shop in the far left corner of the courtyard.
Unfortunately, on arrival we were met with an incredibly rude young woman who looked at us as if we disgusted her. “What do you want?”…”We are busy (the tasting room was nearly empty) if I was you I would go away, it will take at least 15 minutes before we can accommodate you for a tasting, and then we will close soon.” (It wasn’t close to closing time). We said we didn’t mind waiting, which lifted a loud huff and, “Maybe come back in November when we are quieter.”
It was clear she had no intention of providing good manners nor hospitality. Everywhere else we went in Reims was wonderful. This place wasn’t.

Read moreMy husband and I stopped by this cellar door/shop today for a champagne tasting, as we were looking for venues that did not require an advanced booking, and were located in central Reims. We were very glad we did, as we had a wonderful time tasting several champagnes, guided by Christophe. It was fairly quiet in the shop, so we had Christophe nearly all to ourself. Christophe made us feel incredibly comfortable, graciously speaking English for us as well (unfortunately we know very little French). He talked us through the different champagnes and explained various unique aspects of Charles de Casanove. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting, which was also reasonably priced (particularly compared to some of the pre-booked tours with other big houses), and we purchased some wine to take home after. Thanks...
Read moreBe warned if you wish to spend your time here at the end of the day, 50 minutes before 19h-official closing time, we were refused to do one tasting flight -3 glasses. As apparently there was not enough time. What an example of french attitude to customer service, as the lady was more interested to look at her phone than find a compromise to please customers eg. shortened explanations or pouring glasses faster. Being close to the station, you could think this champagne house would be an ideal final stop to finish off an enjoyable day - alas think twice and dont fall for the same error we did, spend your last minutes...
