It all started with a pizza. A perfectly untouched pizza, sitting quietly on a park bench in the dark. And somehow, despite everything that happened that evening, it was still there by the end of it.
Berlin is the kind of city that doesn’t ask for your attention—it just quietly takes over your evening. You sit in a park, expecting nothing, and suddenly feel like you’re part of a film you didn’t audition for.
There’s this small park in Charlottenburg. Peaceful, with a lake, the kind of place where time slows down. One evening, I sat there on a bench, taking a break. A few meters away—another bench. On it, a pizza box, glowing slightly under the streetlight.
After a while, a man walked up collecting bottles. He politely asked if he could take one nearby. “Sure,” I said, then nodded at the box.
“You might want to check that out. Pretty sure there’s a full pizza inside.”
He pulled out a flashlight, opened the box, paused… then smiled and said, “Nah, I’m vegetarian.” Picked up his bag and carried on his way.
The pizza remained.
About ten minutes later, a girl sat down on the same bench. She rolled a cigarette and lit it, the smell drifting over gently—not your everyday blend, let’s say. I stayed quiet, just letting the evening do its thing.
A few minutes passed. She turned to me.
“What’s your name?”
We talked. She smiled. Offered to share her cigarette.
And what happened after that… well, let’s leave some parts to the imagination.
That’s this park for you. Calm on the surface, full of unexpected moments underneath. Let life surprise you. Collect memories. Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet evening and an abandoned pizza to start a story...
Read moreGreat Green space in the city. Lots of trees, pathways, manicured lawns to relax on, throw a ball, picnic...
There is a little boathouse converted into a self serve restaurant with a full Menü of drinks and food, the deck stretches out onto the lake and is really nicely integrated. The people that just take up tables without ordering anything are the pest though.
You will also find a big playground, a smaller playground, gazebos, wonderfully maintained botany, a little park house where there are sometimes live events, a fenced in soccer field, and trees of all shapes and sizes. I particularly love the weeping willows.
The park and lake are devided by the Neue Kant Street, but there is a pathway that goes under the street to access the other half. On this side, the park is a bit quieter, better to jog here There are really nice details but less foot traffic.
Around the park are restaurants, grocery stores, a Späti, bakery, etc. Where you can either stay or take away and enjoy in the park. Parking is on one of the streets around the park somewhere, most are free, easy to access via U-Bahn (e.g. Sophie-Charlotte-Platz...
