Hauptkirche St. Michaelis (St. Michael's Church) has been destroyed, damaged and rebuilt many time over the years, but today's building is a testament to the tenacity of the city's faithful, and an incredible site to visit. The church itself is quite beautiful, far beyond what I can describe here. They have a magnificent organ, and if you are lucky (as was my wife) you may get to experience it. She was treated to a rendition of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor! Wow! My interests, however, lie with towers! From that perspective, St. Michael's did not disappoint! I believe that you can ascend via the elevator, but I chose the steps. Everything was clean, secure and well organized (being recently rebuilt). From the "lantern" viewing platform (106 meters tall) you get a 360° panorama of the city, great for photographers (since you are in the open air, not behind windows). The total height of the tower is 132 meters, making it the third tallest church tower in Hamburg (just 1 meter less that St. Petri, 133 meters, and 15.9 meters less than St. Nikolai, 147.9 meters). For tower junkies, however, the height of the viewing platform is what counts. Here St. Michaelis falls short of the lofty platform of St. Petri's by 17 meters (106 vs. 123 - but it is possible to climb a few meters up a spiral staircase above the 106 meter level to increase the view at St. Michaelis!). The tallest church tower, St. Nikolai, however, has a relatively low viewing platform at only 76 meters (and is reached via a lift). When considering the entire suite of reasons to visit a church in Hamburg, however, St. Michaelis has something for everybody, and should be on your list!

St. Michael’s is the most important baroque church in northern Germany. With its unmistakable copper roof, the church tower is Hamburg’s iconic landmark. This unique church is well worth a visit. __ Special recommendation: is to visit the church tower because it has remarkable view on the entire town... Entrance Fees for tower are for adults: 5,00 € (reduced 4,00 €) and for children 6 - 15 years: 3,50 € (reduced 2,50 €) __ Opening Times - Daily opened *May ‑ September from 9 am to 7.30 pm *October and April from 9 am to 6.30 pm *November - March from 10 am to 5.30 pm It's better to visit this church (especcialy church tower) at 6-7 pm because in that period the sunlight is perfect for photos. __ Insta: @leonbijelic

St. Michael's Church is a magnificent church in Hamburg. It doesn't look like much from the outside, although it does have a very impressive bell tower. The entrance to the church does have a magnificent sculpture of War in Heaven when St. Michael cast down Lucifer. Aside from that and just from the outside, you'd think that this is a very typical austere Protestant church. The interiors are as elaborate as the exterior is simple. The inside is of a beautiful Baroque design. The pulpit is was crafted out of marble and has a lovely naturalist look, almost ahead of it's time and wouldn't look out of place in an Art Nouveau building. A landmark of Hamburg and should definitely be on any visit to the city.

St. Michael's is considered Hamburg main Church and one of city symbols. It's easily distinguished in its Baroque beauty with its tall copper roof with clock. The Church dates back to early 17 c when the first Chapel was built here which was enlarged over centuries along with devastations due to fires and wars. The structure we see today was built at the beginning of 20c but heavily damaged during allied bombing 1943-45. Interiors are very nice, richer than average German Cathedral. Beautiful organ. I do not recommend climbing the Tower - save that for St. Nicholas Church which has a taller tower and better position

This is one of the famous church in Hamburg and be a landmark of this city. This church have a baroque style and you can see the influence from Martin Luther. If you entry this church you can explore 2 area the tower to see the panoramic of Hamburg and the crypt. The church itself have a white ambience in the inside. To entry this church you must to pay 5 euro for the tower, 4 euro for the crypt and 7 euro for the combination ticket. After 1-2 hours tour to this church you can take a rest at the park behind the church. There is a building with unique architecture and you can aslo take some picture there.
