Lovely little half timbered building on the main Markt in this very historic town center of Marburg. Quite a ride to get up there, but once you're there, it's worth the drive through narrow and busy shopping streets. The hotel is very old, partially renovated (not the stairs and hallways) and the rooms are full of original antiques and very simple and quaint. No TV, no radio, no A/C, not very spacious, but certainly adequate for the "adventurous" traveler. And a lovely Italian restaurant at the ground level, plus an excellent breakfast buffet (sort of standard in Germany, we find). Because we were there in the dead of summer and the weather was rather hot, the rooms tended to be a little hot also. Even with windows open it...

Das Gasthaus Hotel zur Sonne ist ein echtes Juwel für alle, die urige deutsche Gastfreundschaft und hervorragende Küche lieben. Das Ambiente ist so richtig schön urig deutsch – man erwartet fast, dass gleich ein Bayer in Lederhosen um die Ecke kommt und einen zünftigen Jodler zum Besten gibt.

Der Service ist einfach top! Das Personal ist so freundlich und aufmerksam, dass man sich fühlt, als würde man bei alten Freunden zu Gast sein. Eine Reservierung ist definitiv zu empfehlen, denn dieser Ort ist so beliebt, dass die Tische schneller weggehen als die Brezeln beim Oktoberfest.

Die Zimmer sind wunderschön und laden zum Verweilen ein. Der historische Flair des Gasthauses macht den Aufenthalt besonders charmant – es fühlt sich an, als würde man in einer kleinen Zeitreise verweilen.

Kommen wir zum Essen: Die traditionelle deutsche Küche hier ist einfach ein Gedicht! Der frische Tartar vom Rinderfilet war der Wahnsinn – so gut, dass ich überlegt habe, ob ich nicht heimlich in die Küche schleichen und Nachschlag holen sollte. Der Allgäuer Zwiebelrostbraten war einer der besten, die ich jemals gegessen habe – so zart, dass man ihn fast mit dem Löffel essen konnte. Und das Schnitzel meiner Begleitung, das „Opa Egons Schnitzel“, war ebenfalls absolut lecker – kein Wunder, dass Opa Egon so berühmt ist!

Insgesamt ist das Gasthaus Hotel zur Sonne in Marburg ein wunderbarer Ort mit historischem Flair, kreativen Gerichten und einer Atmosphäre, die so gemütlich ist, dass man am liebsten gar nicht mehr weg will. Fünf Sterne sind hier...
