Zoologische Sammlung Rostock — Attraction in Rostock

The zoological collection of Rostock University is one of the oldest establishments in Rostock dating back to the 18th century. It includes thousands of specimens, but unfortunately at the time of my visit, only a small exhibition on the ground floor is open for a visit due to COVID19 restrictions. The exhibition comprises fossils, skeleton stuffed specimens of animals with the most famous case Pfeilstorch which means arrow stork. The importance of this bird was the fact that for the first time it bring the idea of bird migration as the spear on its neck was from central Africa. Über zwei Etagen wird hier die unglaubliche Vielfalt veranschaulicht und dokumentiert, in der sich jedwede irdische Daseinsform nur präsentieren kann. 👍 Interessant ist, dass all die kleinen oder großen, gefiederten oder behaarten, bunten oder farblosen Körper bei aller Diversität in einem Punkt geeint sind. Alles was einst geschnattert oder gefiepst, geschnurrt oder gebrüllt hat, geschlängelt, geflogen oder gesprungen ist steht nunmehr wie längst verlassene Raumanzüge fremder Lebewesen still und stumm hinter Glas. 🤔 Eine CD mit Tierstimmen o.ä. könnte dieses Paradoxon vielleicht mindern und dem zivilen Besucher die Begriffe Vielfalt und Diversität noch mehr verdeutlichen. 😉 Der Eintritt zur Sammlung ist frei, was wünschenswert für jedes Museum wäre.
