From Orangerieparterre opens a wonderful view of the natural theater with the Apollo temple. Nicolas de Pigage created the fascinating ensemble between 1761 and 1775. In this impressive setting, concerts and theatrical performances took place during the summer. In 1762, a belvedere was planned here. After the design of Nicolas de Pigage a high, terraced substructure was built, on whose uppermost platform a monopteros , a round temple with twelve pillars of ionic order without Cella rises. The temple is dedicated to the Greek god Apollo . The statue of Apollo comes from the sculptor Anton von Verschaffelt . It shows the god in the left-handed lyre game, which brought the artist some scorn. In an exchange of correspondence between Gleim , Wilhelm Heinse and Johannes von Muller , it is said that he is " even sacred"On a hill," only the left god has a miserable bottom in it ". The Apollo Temple crowns a two-sided complex: from the entrance on the west side, the visitor climbs through rocky, dark and confusing corridors to the light-flooded platform with the classic Monopteros. From the point of view of the audience in the eastern Heckentheater the temple crowns the stage prospectus. Apollo appears as god of the arts and leader of the muses on Mount Helikon , where the Pegasus hoofbeats the source Hippocrene , whose water is passed through the Naiads through the cascade to the people. Above the natural theater, a small round temple rises on artificial rocks. He is dedicated to Apollo, the god of light and the fine arts. Inside, the marble, lyras-playing god still watches over what's going on in the natural theater at his feet. The Temple of Apollo can only be reached via a branched network of irregular steps or via the cave-like passages in the rock base. As if out of darkness, the path leads man to the light. The Temple of Apollo offers a wonderful view of the natural theater, the adjacent Orangerieparterre and the surrounding landscaped garden. The depiction of the sun motif on the railing of the upper terrace refers to Apoll's function as...

Beautiful round little temple dedicated to Apollo, rising above the horizon of the park, is one of the finest roman-like structures to be found in the gardens. It is actually built on the artificial rock above a natural theatre and features a nice water cascade. Statues of sphinxes can be seen around the auditorium located at the bottom of the structure. Large terrace, behind the statue of Apollo, is accessible via passage built inside the rock and its railings depict the sun motifs, referring to Apollo as the god of light. Worth stopping by and enjoying the great vibe! Visited...

Beautiful Temple on top of a moderately large rock. The rock has a cavern-like walkway inside, which is quite exciting. The statue on top is very detailed, in a greek style and overall a good piece of artwork. The Temple also features a cascaded well and a...
