We visited the Castle as a family outing, 4 adults and 2 kids ages 6 and 10. castle is currently under a lot of construction, however i am happy for the work being done as the castle is well worth preserving. The walk up there is easy for healthy legs, i would NOT recommend it if you are less mobile than normal. There are a few very steep paths and a lot of stairs in the castle. However i noticed a small train ride going up there, unsure where that is starting and ending and the price.
The castle itself is very fairytale like. It has some very interesting story and a lot of cool items to see, i did however notice a lot of signs and info boards are lacking information in English, so make sure your German is updated. ;)

Read moreA must-visit when you're in Wernigerode! Wernigerode Castle is straight out of a fairytale — perched on a hill with breathtaking views over the charming town and the Harz mountains. The architecture is stunning, and the atmosphere feels like stepping into another century.
Now, let me say this loud and clear: take the uphill walk to the castle if you can! Sure, there are shuttle buses and other ways to get there, but where’s the adventure in that? 😄 Brace your leg muscles and lungs — the incline is real! 🥵 But trust me, it’s the most rewarding option. It adds a touch of effort, a dash of cardio, and a full dose of “I earned this view!”
Once you reach the top, all the huffing and puffing pays off. The castle is beautiful, the views are spectacular, and the photo ops are endless. Whether you're into history, architecture, or just soaking in amazing scenery — this place has it all.
Pro tip: Go early or late in the day to avoid crowds and heat. Bring water, good shoes, and a bit of...

Then we headed to the souvenir shop to buy the entrances … We as a family of 4 adults coming all the way from Brazil (being only one of us spoke German and the rest of us Portuguese and English) the one who speaks German got us tickets and I asked him to ask the ticket person if there was English translations around the castle so we could understand it , to which the guy said YES there is … awesome we got the tickets and inside we went … tour 1 , in room one NO ENGLISH, room 2 , no English, there was only English translation on the grand piano room and after that a few others ! It basically has 10% of translations, making the tour no foreigner friendly! The rooms are stunning, the views from the castle is superb BUT left the tour lacking all the historical aspects of the castle and whatever else curiosities that must of being...
