The waterfront is busy day and night with tourists, locals, couples, families, bars restaurants, cafes, shops, traders. It's all there withing (flat) walking distance. The surfaces are a bit uneven sometimes so if you are a wheelchair user or unsteady on your feet be sure to take care. The narrow lanes beihnd the front hide thousands of tiny interesting shops (and a naughty late club VIPs) to keep everyone amused and interested. Mytilene has lost a lot of its trade over the last few years with people seeing news reports of millions of migrants flooding the place. Whilst it's true it's a lot of them arrive there, it's nothing like the sensational press make it seem. In the past 8 months that I've been visiting, I've seen very few beggars and no trouble at all.
