Best honey farm experience that I’ve had
The experience begins when you show up to the farm and ring the bell at the gate. You are greeting by the warm friendly people of Xunah Kaab.
They take you on a tour around their courtyard, and you see the various assortment of honeybee species. Do not worry, the bees are stingless, so those bees won’t sting you.
The tour guides speak slow, so it is easy to understand their presentation about the bees and the farm. They are also able to answer some questions in English, which is helpful for those that do not speak Spanish at all. During the tour, you meet the different types of bees they have, and learn about the differences in their habits and honey.
After the tour, you are taken to the honey testing area. You are able to taste over a dozen different types of honeys and products, and each one is more delicious than the one before. In addition to honey and food products related to honey, they have skincare products made from honey and wax, as well as pollen, and more.
The honey at Xunah Kaab is very special and delicious. You can see that everyone working there cares deeply for the bees and about their work, and they are very knowledgeable about their industry.
After the honey testing, you can go into their shop and purchase your favorite products in order to support their business and support the bees.
I had the special opportunity to go visit the honey harvest with Xunah Kaab. It was a great experience to see how hard they work to get the honey, hiking up the mountains with the amazing views of San Juan and meeting everyone working at the honey extraction at the top of the mountain. It’s a rare opportunity when to experience a honey harvest like this, and I am thankful for Lucas and Silvia at Xunah Kaab for inviting me to experience it. I will be telling everyone I meet that loves honey about this experience and everyone that visits Lake Atitlan to go visit the honey farm...
Read moreWe visited this bee farm after a fellow traveler mentioned stingless bee farms in San Juan. We found XUNAH KAAB on google maps and went for it! We just showed up and rang the bell out front, someone opened the gate for us and asked if we wanted a tour. It was an amazing experience! Raquel gave us such a wonderful tour in English. We were able to sample many different types of honey and some honey mead too! It was amazing! Waxxy (their dog) was also super friendly, cute, and funny! I just wish the peanut butter chocolate honey came in a smaller jar since we only have carry on bags. We did buy several other honeys and some honey beer though! Highly recommend making it a stop while...
Read moreWe showed up and were greeted at the gate, and we got a tour of the different hives and species of bees that they keep. It was AMAZING, the staff/family were very informative, it was really cool to learn about the different species of bees they keep. On top of everything, we got to sample various types of honey produced from the different species. We were taught about the different purposes and remedies that each mixture of honey had. It was incredibly affordable for everything that was included ($20 for 2 small jars of honey, some candy, and the tour). All in all, it was a wonderful experience, our only regret is not buying more...
