My friend and I were looking for a fews days of relaxation so we booked Hotel Taa Tiin on the recommendation of a trusted friend. It was the right choice! ||||The hotel appears to be a family-owned affair and staff members couldn't have been any nicer to us! They were the perfect hosts.||||The small hotel building itself looks to be very new. Public areas are nicely decorated and pleasant, as are the rooms. Our beds, pillows, and bedding were of the highest quality and the bathroom has a strong hot shower. The only down side, not uncommon in Guatemalan hotels, was that there was only one small desk to hold our suitcases and no other storage. ||||The building itself is odd in that windows in the rooms open onto interior public spaces. With this comes a great deal of noise bouncing off the cinderblock walls if others in the hotel ignore the "silencio" signs (which they did).||||Rooms are located adjacent to residential properties so you can expect the hear dogs barking, roosters crowing, and the slap-slap of tortillas being made over a fire. All in the Guatemalan experience!||||The hotel has a lovely garden area as well, where breakfast is served to guests every morning. We would have liked a few hammocks to laze in. Maybe they'll add some? There is also a temezcal on the property, which we didn't try but looked very inviting. ||||Hotel Taa Tiin is up a hill a bit outside of town, so much more peaceful, especially at night. If you don't feel like walking, tuk-tuks come and go throughout the day and night so it's easy to get wherever...
Read moreI hesitate to write this review as some places are best kept as a personal secret. The staff, namely Elena, Genri, Isabel, and Maria were exceptional. Their professionalism and warm hearts made my stay perfect. Each day they smiled, chatted, asked questions, thought ahead, and remembered my preferences. Some people do what they're paid to do; these folks served with their hearts.
The rooms are reasonably sized and gorgeously decked. Great water pressure. Comfortable bed. Small hotel (only 10 rooms) with charm to spare. Couldn't be happier.
Also, the staff know everyone in town. Need something? Just...
Read moreReally enjoyed staying at Taa Tiiin as it felt like the most authentic Guatemalan hospitality. Firstly the staff were great accommodating a change of dates twice and then also super helpful with finding a guide for a sunrise hike to the Mayan nose viewpoint.|The room was also very authentically furnished and I especially enjoyed the temazcal, a Guatemalan sauna experience. The breakfast also had lots of local delicacies. And while this may not be for everyone, I really enjoyed the peace and quiet of being a ten minute walk away from San Juan’s busiest area. Would happily return and...
