The memorial was inaugurated on August 15, 2016, by then‑CM Sarbananda Sonowal, marking Assam’s first state-level war memorial .
It's dedicated to Assam’s war heroes—from the legendary 1671 Battle of Saraighat to modern conflicts like Kargil, the 1971 naval attack on Karachi, and the 1962 Sino‑Indian War .
Positioned right beside the historic Dighalipukhuri pond and opposite the High Court, the memorial features lush gardens and peaceful pathways .
Eye-catching elements include a Vijayanta tank, a MiG‑27ML fighter jet (TS‑522), and a P‑20 naval missile, displayed on raised platforms .
The centerpiece is a tall central pillar inscribed with names of Assam’s fallen soldiers, accompanied by plaques and 3D reliefs illustrating key battles .
A life-size “Amar Jawan” statue, reverse-saluting soldier sculpture, and reproductions of Saraighat-era Ahom warship and Lachit Barphukan’s statue further enhance its gravity .
No Entry Fee: Free access, though donations are welcome to help maintain the site .
How to reach: Located at Fatick Chandra Rd, Latasil (near Kamakhya Railway Junction, ~3 km); accessible via auto, bus, or walk .
