Mughal Period Jharna is a historic water cascade located in the Mehrauli area of New Delhi, India. It is believed to date back to the Mughal era, which spanned from the 16th to the 19th century. The Jharna is part of the Aam Bagh or "Mango Garden" complex, which was built by Mughal emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. The garden was designed as a retreat for the emperor and his court, and featured a number of pavilions, fountains, and water features. The Jharna was built to provide a source of water for the garden, and to create a cooling effect during the hot summer months. The water cascade consists of a series of pools and channels, which lead down to a large central pool. The pools are connected by a network of channels and underground tunnels, which help to regulate the flow of water. The Jharna is decorated with intricate carvings and designs, including floral motifs, geometric patterns, and calligraphy. The water cascading down the Jharna creates a soothing sound, which adds to the tranquility of the garden. Over the years, the Aam Bagh complex has undergone several restorations and renovations. In the early 20th century, the garden was used as a hunting ground by British officials, and many of its original features were damaged or destroyed. In the 1970s, the garden was declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and a major restoration project was undertaken. Today, the Aam Bagh complex and the Mughal Period Jharna are popular tourist attractions, and are considered an important part of Delhi's rich cultural heritage. They serve as a reminder of the city's rich history and the enduring legacy of the Mughal empire.

The Mughal Period Jharna located in mehrauli is a prominent water structure dating back to 1700 AD. Built by Nawab Ghaziuddin, it was designed to be a pleasure garden and a retreat for the Mughals. The Jharna received the extra runoff from the Hauz--Shamsi (vast Slave dynasty tank) through an underground pipe, which is still visible today. Built in three parts, its complete structure consisted of a reservoir, a waterfall and a slew of fountains. Known to host the famous 'Phool Walon ki Sair' (Procession of Florists) since the Mughal era, the Jharna is also used as a venue for other events like the Basant Utsav (Spring Festival) and the Monsoon Festival.

This Mughal Period Jharna is situated just opposite to the Jahaz Mahal on the other side of the road. There is no signage though to guide but there is a pathway that leads to the Jharna. The pathway though is very dirty and I think administration should have done to clean the area. There is no entry fee. The excess water from the nearby water reservoir and excess rainwater used to flow through the channel that was created to beautify the waterfall. The inside area is although wel preserved and has shaded porticos.

This Jharna of Mughal period is located inside the Seth Sarai on Kalka Das Road in the interiors of Mehrauli is encroached from all the sides. One must reach Jharna by taking the road near Anderia Mod near Vasant Kunj. It is not very far from the historical Jahaz Mahal. It is under the control of Delhi Government and is being poorly maintained. Feel sorry to see its present condition. It has got beautiful Mughal Period Jharna which is now blocked from all the sides. One can see rainy water blocked in the Jharna. The entire beautiful Complex is left to one security person. It must be renovated and popularize: it has potential to attract tourists. Entire Mehrauli area has got very rich heritage full of countless monuments amongst which the iconic Qutub Minar is the tallest one and most visited by the tourists from across the World. Do visit and see its beauty and present condition....
